In this last month there was a Celebration of Life at the Club, there was standing room only, the ball room was pack along with the dining room and bar. The Club lost a great member, his family lost a beloved father, husband, and we all lost a friend. Kent Schwartzenberger was funny, full of life, the first one there and last to leave. He had an infectious laugh, a stinging wit and the guy you wanted to be paired with for the round. He will be missed by all who knew him, but we are all better off for time we got to spend together. Great memories.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond to the three surveys that were sent out. The most responses we got were from the Food and Beverage survey, as I suspected it would be. I have read several studies on private golf clubs that food and beverages are as important for member satisfaction as the golf course itself. The two biggest takeaways we saw in the survey were that menu changes need to be made and more consistent service and quality of food prep.
To address these issues, the Board has decided to separate Food and Beverage from the House Committee and create a separate committee for just that area. The House Committee has done a great job and has completed many important projects over the last year or two. We felt there was just too much on their plate with all the projects that are needed around the Club and a separate committee was needed to concentrate on just F&B.
Our goal is to find people with a background in food and beverage within our Club to sit on that committee. So please, if you have a background in F&B please let us know if you have the interest and the time to help here.
We will also continue to communicate directly with the membership to get a consensus as to the type of food, specials and changes to make to our menu. We will also have survey cards on the tables so immediate feedback can be given by members. The goal of the Board is to have Twin Lakes in the top restaurants you consider in the area. One of our goals is to always offer simple high-quality selections that the members enjoy and can count on. We are not going to be a fine dining venue and from the survey, less than 7% of members were interested in that.
The survey with the least responses was the one pointed at Junior Proprietary members. The club understands the needs of younger families can be different and, in an effort to accommodate those needs we asked, what could we do as a Club to provide things that would improve their experience. It would seem email is not the best way to communicate with most members. The open rate of the survey was low so we are looking for alternate means. I think the new app we will be getting towards the end of the golf season will help and we will use more text messaging. We will continue to ask for input.
This Club is not run by a management company or a corporation. The Board and the Committees represent the membership, they are here to serve the members. But you must be willing to take the time and let us know what will help you stay a member and get your friends to become members.
We will continue to ask for your options so please respond when asked so we can better serve you.
On another subject, John, our superintendent, has a very limited team and works really hard to make the course the best it can be, given our budget. So please, take the time to fix your ball marks, fill in your divots, and pick up your broken tees. We should not be wasting our manpower on those things.
Our next member hour will be 5/21 at 5:00pm. I look forward to seeing you there.

Before I start my article, I have a “Big” thank you to mention to John Leslie and your staff, for all your hard work and dedication in getting our golf course in great shape for us. The maintenance staff has done a fantastic job in getting us through this past winter and through the first half of this. It was cold and wet and your dedication to the golf course is greatly noticed and appreciated by all who play golf. We are now ready to “Rock N Roll” going into May.
Now going forward, we just need to be mindful that we continue filling our divots with the provided sand/seed and repair that ball mark left on the greens during rounds. I understand that many members do not believe you leave a mark on the green with your approach shots but please look around and fix those that you see. If we all do our part to help, the greens will always be nice and smooth and the fairways in great shape for our enjoyment.

PRACTICE RANGE CLOSURES: Wednesdays at 5pm – Thursday 8am (full clean pick for mowing); Friday’s 5-6pm (short pick); Sunday’s 5-6pm (short pick)
We have done an excellent job with the practice range keeping range balls in stock as well as the continuous mowing to keep the grass height down on the hillside for ease of picking. For those wanting to hit their drivers, please refrain from hitting it or any club which will cause the balls to fly outside the back netting. Any damage to buildings and cars will be the player’s responsibility.
As a reminder for the range users, we still need your help in keeping these range balls inside the complex as well as returning your buckets after using the range. If by chance you find a bucket in your golf cart, car trunk, or garage, please bring it back. We seem to keep mentioning this bucket shortage problem, but it is an ongoing problem. Be kind and fair to the other members who would like to practice as well. A reminder to the associate and social members using the practice range, the price per bucket is $10.
Also, we want to remind all members to please make sure to call the golf shop and/or look online for the availability of tee times, especially during the dates listed above. If you need help scheduling a tee time with one of our reciprocal courses during any of these days, please call the golf shop and we will do our best to help you set up your neighboring visit.
MEMORIAL DAY COUPLES EVENT: We will have the Memorial Day couples’ tournament on Sunday the 24th with a 1:00 shotgun start. The first tee will be with tee times available before 10:30am. The format for the event is Alternate Shot Scramble. The teams are made up of three couples. You can sign up as a team or if you want to play but do not have a full team, we will help you find other couples to make a team. For those of us who have been here, let’s ask some of the newer members to join in on the fun. This is a fun event. The format calls for the ladies to tee off on odd numbered holes and then you select the best drive of the ladies, and the men then hit the second shot and repeat this sequence until the golf ball is holed. The men will tee off on the even numbered holes repeating the process of always alternating between men and women. Call the pro shop and sign yourselves up for a fun afternoon.
BATTLE OF THE SEXES EVENT: Our annual Battle of the Sexes will be held on May 28 this year. We anticipate having a field size between 36 – 40 players. Men vs Women for the 2026 bragging rights. Our men are our last year’s braggers. Frankie and Ramon will be drawing the pairings once again. We will keep you posted to the times/match schedule as we get closer to the battle date. Make sure to sign up before the field is filled.
MEN’S INVITATIONAL JUNE 3-6: We have filled the event with 25 teams this year.. If you are interested in signing up on the waitlist for this event or need more information, please contact the pro shop. We are excited to have Motors Northwest (Kasey Poirrer) as our title sponsor along with two gold sponsors: Café Darte (Jeff Stock) and True Grit Hauling and Junk Removal (John Curtis); and two silver sponsors (Ryan Hoover and Terry Thomas). Our #15 Hole sponsor this year is Tim Scheuffele and the gang and on #6, Jared Heslop and Matt Howland. As you can see, it is going to be four days of golfing, fun events, and lots of great food & drinks.
CROSS COUNTRY HORSE RACE: It’s time to open your calendars to participate in the Cross-Country Horse Race on Wednesday, June 24th starting on #10 at 5:30pm. Click on the event link in this article to sign up or use the sign-up sheet posted on the golf shop window. If you have time that evening to come watch, it is a fun event to watch the players play hole 10 to the 11th green; Hole 12 to the 13th green; Hole 14; and then Hole 15 to the 16th green. If you are interested in participating, don’t hesitate to sign up. This is a mixed event using the ABCD random draw to determine the pairings.
ONLINE TEE TIME RESERVATIONS: We want to remind everyone that if you have not set up your tee time profile to please take the time to go online and register. This way the staff knows exactly who is playing in your group. This will help facilitate the staging of golf bags, push carts, and golf cart rentals as we get into the season. If you need us to send you a reset password link, let us know. It only takes a push of a button to get this started.
Lastly, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and non-moms out there. Enjoy your special upcoming weekend. If you want to hit the ball around on your special day, please come out and use the putting green, practice green, practice range, and/or the golf course after you have brunch with us.
Keep your fingers crossed so that the sun continues to stay out so we can break out the sunscreen and start golfing in shorts.
See you around the club!
