From our Club President

Erika Sheffield-Stull

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Hello Twin Lakes!

These warmer temperatures and dry days give us all the itch to get out and enjoy the sunshine! Even though I’m navigating some uncharted tariff waters at work, I’m very excited to play golf in the warmer months.

Like the grass, trees and flowers, Twin Lakes is in GROWTH mode! The Membership committee is working hard on outside advertising initiatives and New Member meet and greets, but the primary driver of new memberships comes from member referrals! Please tell your friends what a great golf value Twin Lakes is. We are building on our strengths and have some of the best professionals in the business to help us succeed.

The club is asking golfers to avoid walking down the dirt hill down to the tees on #3 (using the paved ramp down to the #9 green). The area is very eroded and damaged from foot traffic, and we would appreciate all golfers using the paved path that runs alongside the pool to get to the tees. We are going to improve this area soon.

I can’t say enough about our Greens Superintendent, John Leslie. He has tackled several projects in the past few months that have languished on our to-do list. The pond has gone from a shallow, stinky mess to a real knockout. We’ve added gravel to the path behind the #10 forward tees and the rotted railroad ties have been removed from the old forward tees on #2. The course is going to be just beautiful for our busy season.

I’m headed to Bingo in the Lounge tonight and hope to see a great turnout. Thank you to everyone that gives their time, money and effort to Twin Lakes. I wish I could give each individual a shout out here but know that your efforts are noticed and appreciated!

Sincerely,

Erika

From our General Manager

TOM COBURN

GENERAL MANAGER

Happy April everyone! We are looking forward to a very busy 2025 summer with lots of fun events and plenty of ways for you to enjoy your wonderful club.

First up is the pool! It is almost time for pool season. I am so happy to say that Lillian Tucker will be our Pool Manager again this season. She is already assembling her team of lifeguards. If you know of anyone who might be interested in working at the pool this summer, here is the link to the application form for applying to be a lifeguard at Twin Lakes.

Lillian is also starting to plan out the swim lesson schedule. If you are interested, here is the lesson registration form for the first lesson session which will be July 7th – July 17th.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Lillian at lillian.a.tucker@outlook.com

I would like to extend a very special thank-you to our Monday morning golf course cleanup crew for the extra work they have done to clean up the area around #10 tee. What a visual difference it makes as we drive down 320th. And who knew there was a rock wall in that mess? The Monday Morning Maintenance crew officially reached the one-year mark for our the volunteer program! According to Kevin Isherwood, over the past year, the crew has accomplished remarkable things, including:

· 38 weeks of dedicated effort

· 642 man-hours contributed

· 281 cart loads of debris delivered to the “Train Station”

The hard work and commitment to the mission is simply amazing!

This year we will simplify the volunteer process. There will no longer be weekly invites or updates. Instead, anyone interested in volunteering should just show up on Mondays at 8 AM. Kevin guarantees that there is something to do for everyone willing to work. And rest assured, everyone who shows up will be put to work!

As Easter is quickly approaching, there are still a few times left so don’t hesitate to call Molly to make your reservations for the event. Despite the weather, it has been very busy at the club, thanks to the wonderful efforts of the Social Committee, cochaired by Casey Gibson & Marlies Scott-Wenzel. From the Oscar Party to wine tastings to Rock and Roll Bingo, there have been so many fun evenings. There will be many more events to come!

If you know anyone who has expressed interest in joining Twin Lakes, now is the time to reach out and share with them how wonderful it is to be part of such a great club.

From our Head Golf Professional

KATHY WAKE

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Hello Everyone

It appears the golf gods were playing Peek a Boo with our chances of playing golf last month, but we had a few summer-like days these past two weeks that have been fantastic!  It gave us a preview of what our summer days are going to be like on the golf course.  Cross our fingers that the rain will finally leave us (or at least be a light sprinkle here and there).

Now that we are in April and the beginning of our Spring/Summer season, our golf rates change out of the winter schedule.  A reminder to all members that the same guest can only play 6 times in the year.  This applies to Our social and associate members as well.  For those members who have guests that are at their limit since Jan 1 or close to it, suggest that they take advantage of our preview membership program.  Well worth looking in to as well as if they join, you get a little incentive along the way.  Stop by Tom’s office for the information packet and more explanation if questions.

Listed below is the current golf rate schedule for the upcoming season along with the posted Dress Code for all members and their guests while using the golf course and practice facilities.

Driving Range Hours are listed as well.  Reminder that we will perform short picks (1 hour) Monday and Friday afternoons from 3-4pm to keep up with the supply and demand for practicing.  Also, a reminder to not park your cars down at the range.  This is the property of Lakehaven Water and this is their request to us.  Please help us out so that we don’t get a nasty gram.

APRIL 1 – SEPT 30 GOLF RATES

UPCOMING APRIL/MAY GOLF EVENTS

Wednesday April 9 is the start of Master’s Weekend with our Par 3 Challenge at 5:30pm.  If you have not signed up, call or stop by the golf shop with your group.  Singles will be put together.  Both men & women invited.

Next on the agenda is the “Pick your Pro” weekend competition.   April 11, Master’s Friday night, is our silent auction for your professional partner for the weekend.  There will be bid sheets for each professional golfer that makes the cut set up in the lobby starting at 5pm. The entry fee for this event is the auction price you pay for your tour player.  You can buy as many players as you want.  The competition is the tour player’s 2-day score over the weekend combined with your net score from Saturday or Sunday round at Twin Lakes.  If you are unable to make the auction on Friday night, you can buy a player the next morning by paying $5 more than the previous bid, provided the player has not teed off for their round at the tournament.

Remember, The Masters is played on the east coast so make sure you get the player you want before they tee off.  There are no assigned tee times for this event.  Make a tee time with someone who is also playing in the competition.  Last tee time off #1 tee on Sunday will be 12pm for the competition.

The Men’s League will be starting Wednesday, April 16th and running throughout the summer.  $85 is the entry to join the league.  Your entry goes toward the “Season End” banquet and the “Winward Cup” payouts.   The Men’s Wednesday evening competitions begin at 5:30pm (shotgun) and our Fri/Sat/Sun weekend comps are tee times on your own time (playing with another league member).  They format of play varies on types of competitions.  There is no prior sign-up necessary during these events.  The buy-in for Wednesday and weekend events is $10.

We have the Couples anniversary tournament on April 28th.  This is a two-person chapman format for couples.  We play this in groups of three couples (six-some), and you can choose the other two couples for your playing partners.  The sign-up is available in the pro shop.  Included in your $30 entry fee is a Champagne Toast while on the course.  The Thursday night Couple’s Mixers and Sunday play days will start up in May.

Men, mark your calendars for the Spring 2 Man, which takes place on May 1st & 2nd.  18 holes played on Saturday and 27 holes on Sunday.  Three different formats will be used for this event.  Starting with a Better Ball format on Saturday followed by a Scramble format on Sunday morning and finishing the event with a 9-hole Chapman Sunday afternoon.  It’s time to find a partner and sign-up in the pro shop.  If you need a partner, contact the golf shop and we will do our best to pair you up.

We are currently trying to set up the Men’s Senior Exchanges for this year.  The Plateau Club dates have been set for July.  We will go there on Wednesday, July 9 and will play here on Wednesday, July 23.  Both events will start at 9am.    The cost to participate in these events is $10 to cover the competition.  You will be on your own for any type of Food/Beverage.

WOMEN’S AND MEN’S INVITATIONALS – STILL TIME TO SIGN UP.

Contact the golf shop for your entry information packet.

  • Women’s Invitational – May 23rd & 24th
  • Men’s Invitational – June 4th – 8th

FRIENDS OF THE GOLF COURSE “SANDY” Award

Our Friends of the Golf Course award, the “Sandy” recognition is starting back up again for the season.  This award is presented monthly recognizing those members that have gone above and beyond with the care of the course/facility.  This dedication and time go unnoticed most of the time and this program is designed to give back to those that give so much.  So, if you see someone spending extra time filling in the divots left behind uncared for or maintaining the golf course/facility in some way, please let Kathy know so that we can get this member the recognition and the “Thank You” that they deserve.

Speaking of recognition and a big “thank you”, on behalf of Ben and myself, we want to thank everyone who participated in the Spring Glow Ball event last month.  The weather is always iffy as usual and the turnout for this event continues to grow (along with the glow ball supplies).  We had 60 players come out to enjoy the festivities and help grow our assistant fund which helps secure money for the required PGA schooling, required education and meetings, along with helping pay for the Pro-Am fees needed to take the members for the season.  Congratulations to our Low Gross Winners: Diane Meyers, Russ Meyers, Ramon Dzubay, Kenny Haskins and our Low Net Winners: Loren Ellingson, Tim Scheuffele, Grant Hulse, Brett Hulse.

We have new faces among our golf operations staff.  We have four (4) new outside staff members: Cole Ellingson, Andrew Lettice, Victoria Vasquez, and Valeria Vasquez.  We are excited to have these young individuals join our Twin Lakes family and what they will be able to contribute to our golf operations.  This should complete our team for which it is nice to finally be able to have them trained for the beginning of the season.

Lastly, thank you everyone for your patience with the timing of the arrival of our new scorecards.  We should also have them here this week along with our updated course guidebooks.  When you see them, it is well worth the wait on both.

See you around the club!

Kathy, Ben, Golf Operation Staff

Greens Committee

Thank you to John Leslie and his team for their efforts and execution in maintaining a beautiful golf course for us to enjoy year-round. Thank you also to Kevin Isherwood’s Monday Morning Maintenance volunteer team, one of the many projects they have been working on is the #10 tee box area, and it looks really great! Spring is finally here, along with more sunny days and more daylight. The golf course is in great shape and if you have been out recently you may have noticed and enjoyed some of the many beautification efforts by so many around the course.

As always, John and his team has been productive with projects throughout the course:

● Installed new crushed gravel path from 320th crosswalk to the #10 tee box and cart paths.

● Hole #15 hillside beautification, clean up, and improved playability.

● Hole #3 pond cleaned up, and fountain re-installed.

● Spring greens aerification.

● Several pot holes along the cart paths have been filled.

We as a committee will continue to work with John and focus on various items. Potential upcoming projects we have discussed:

● Continue bunker rehabs- start on the back 9

● Hole 15 hillside playability

● Concrete tiles replacing old stairs on hole 2 tee box

● Hole 3 pond cleanup: fence, edges, fountain, etc.

● Hole 3 hillside clean up in between blue and white tees

As a reminder to all members and your guests, please do your part to assist with course conditions by following cart path rules, repairing pitch and ball marks, and sanding your divots. These small efforts add up in a big way and help the golf course recover more quickly.

If you have other ideas you would like the Greens Committee to address, you are always welcome to reach out. For other questions, comments, or concerns please email me at tpac14@gmail.com and I will review with the committee.

Thank you,

Tyler Pac

Committee Chair

Women’s Division

It was a cold and wet start to the season but these hearty souls braved the elements.

Congratulations to Minhee Chung, our first Ace Day winner of the year.

Upcoming events for the 18 Hole Division include the first Sweeps on April 15 at Sandpoint (contact Denise Harrell with questions) and first Team matches of the year on April 24 at Sahalee.

We would like to welcome new members Dojin Chung, Julie Larson and Angela Lee to the 18 Hole Division. I haven’t caught up with these ladies to get their pictures yet, but, when you see a new face on the course, please introduce yourselves! It’s wonderful to see our numbers growing.

The Invitational committee is making plans for the Women’s Invitational being played on May 23 and 24. Application forms are available in the Women’s locker room. Please consider volunteering to bring Between 9’s Snacks or monitoring the Snack Room during the tournament. There will be a sign up sheet in the locker room or feel free to contact Sally Irvine at sallyai@comcast.net or text to 206-200-6680 if you would like to help.

Women’s Division Board Meeting on April 29 at 3:30pm.

A note to new members: The last Tuesday of the month is normally a shotgun start and a mixer. The Pro Shop sets up the groups so be sure to confirm that you are playing (through Golf Genius) this is a really great opportunity to meet and play a round with someone new. All Women’s Division members are welcome and encouraged to attend the Board Meetings. The meetings are held after the 18 Hole shot gun and before the 9 Hole start on the last Tuesday of the month in the locker room. Come and learn how it all works!

Twin Lakes Women’s 9 Hole Division

The cold and rain certainly hasn’t made it easy, but our 9-Hole Ladies have been nearly doubling their numbers every week making an awesome presence on the course.    We went out with only 4 ladies for our low net competition on 3/4/25. Maribel Harrell placed 1st, followed by ilima Brainard and Krista Olufson. On 3/11/25 we played odd holes with 9 players, (2 flights). Kim Crahan and Krista Olufson placed 1st, followed by ilima Brainard and Dominique McDonald in 2nd and 3rd place went to Erika Sheffield with Teri Jones and Diana Rawlings in a tie in the second flight. The last Tuesday of every month is our team competition which was a 2 Net BB. We had a record 17 ladies, come out forming 5 teams on a gorgeous 70+ degree day!! We had a 3-way tie for 2nd, but the 1st place team consisted of ilima Brainard, Donna Luinstra, Shannon Urban and some help from our blind draw, Lauren Sealey.  Looking forward to the rest of the season!  Remember that it’s not too late to join either of the Ladies Divisions….you can get contact information thru the pro shop.

Oscars Watch Party – Sunday, March 2nd

A great success to be added as a signature event next year.

  • The glamorous Oscar atmosphere was cloned by rolling out a red-carpet runway, assembling a pair of life-size Oscar statues, and placing mini golden statuettes on each table that complimented the beautiful women and men in their stunning cocktail attire
  • The sensational appetizer and refreshing cocktail specials were enjoyed in abundance by the enthusiastic Oscar crowd. Thank you to our food service, bar, and back of the house professionals who created such a hospitable ambience.

On Saturday, March 22 NW Beverage hosted another wine tasting event pouring two Chardonnays, two Cabernets and one French Rose to wine enthusiasts who turned out, notwithstanding the cancelation of the Charcuterie class that was scheduled to precede it.  To make up for the class, the chef created a min charcuterie board in addition to other delicious appetizer specials, enjoyed by all.

Rock n Roll Bingo, presented by American Dreams Entertainment on Thursday, April 3rd to a packed lounge, was a huge success and received many positive comments.  This new event was designed to bring more mid-week social programs to club activities, and judging by the enthusiastic turnout, met its mark. Guests of all ages were observed swaying and singing along to tunes from the 70s and 80s, recalling many treasured memories and stirring sentimental feelings experienced when listening to these songs.

Coming up, don’t miss the May 3rd Kentucky Derby event, a club tradition for many years, promising a fun fun-filled afternoon that includes a best female and male Derby hat contest, raffles for groovy prizes including a 50/50 cash prize, Derby Trivia, and Parimutuel betting.
