From our Club President

Bryce Landrud

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Hello Fellow Members!

What happened to July? It seems like I just wrote my last article for this publication. Most likely I just blanked out a couple weeks of it while I mulled over why I always seem to follow a run of ‘good’ golf with an equal or worse run of, well, the opposite of good. Was it really 4 weeks since I had that ‘career’ round? Yep, because there’s 8 newly posted awful ones.

Anyway, it seems that whatever we do time flies by, and are we ever happy it has flown by enough that the pool is now open. If you can’t swim and/or haven’t had a look yet, it is beautiful, and state of the art. You’ve seen that the pumps are in, housed in a new self-contained building. There are a few modifications, connections, and electrical changes that are upcoming in the next week or so; with any luck those too will be functional soon.

I’m proud to have served and worked with everyone on the board, the numerous groups of knowledgeable and hard-working volunteers, our often-stretched thin staff, our management, and especially you, our members, who saw, understood, and put your money and trust in us to get through this. We are almost there, but trust me, we are not almost done. We’re always looking for help.

August will no doubt fly by as well, with Women’s, Men’s and Senior Club Championships, as well as finishing off the Men’s President’s Cup. Good luck to all! During these last couple of months of great golf weather, try to spend a minute meeting and/or playing with some of our newer members. I’ve met a number of you so far, and it’s been great to see your level of participation in our tournaments and leagues. Welcome! (and quit winning everything)…

See you out there!

TOM COBURN

GENERAL MANAGER

Hello all and happy August!

First, thank you to all of you who have sponsored new members! I have enjoyed getting to know each of them as they have participated in many summer activities. As members, you have first-hand knowledge and experience of being part of our club, so I continue to encourage you to share your love of Twin Lakes with friends and colleagues! The best part of Twin Lakes is the wonderful community of people who make up the membership!

I would also like to say how exciting it is to see people enjoying our new pool! This would not have been possible without the late-night volunteer efforts done by several of your fellow members, specifically Brandon, Trace, Jeff, Rob, and Brad. Thank you for literally working until midnight to install the new water heater for the pool building and getting us through the successful inspection!  Also a huge ongoing thank you to Bob Rawlings for donating countless hours of his time caring for the upkeep of our facilities.

Continuing in the celebration of your tremendous volunteering, I would like to personally thank some of the members for their generous contribution of time and expertise. First, thank you to all who came out last week for the first volunteer tee box cleanup effort. Led by Kevin Isherwood, this group has already cleaned most of the flower beds surrounding the tee boxes on the front nine, which is a huge accomplishment and help to us. This project has become a weekly effort, so watch for the email announcements if you want to join and help out!

I hope everyone enjoys the last bit of summer, and I hope to see you at the pool!

I cannot believe it is August already!

We have had such a great season so far and I look forward to having some more fun and making more memories. This month we have our Women’s Division Club Championship Aug 6,9,13; Men’s Club Championship Aug 9-11; and our Senior Club Championship on Aug 23 & 24.

The Wednesday Night Men’s Competitions have continued to have an amazing turn out and we will keep running them through September. Our leading point winner so far is Jeff Eberle with 783.50 points. Close behind is Steve Sealey with 740 points and our third place is neck and neck with Andrew Ziltener and Matt Howland with 585 and 580 points respectively.

The Men’s Club Championship sign-ups are open using GGID (Golf Genius ID) tlchamp24 on Golf Genius or by calling the golf shop. Even if you are not playing, come out and watch the players finish on #9 green this weekend as we crown our 2024 Cub Champion. We will be closing sign ups on Wednesday, Aug 7 at 5pm. For Friday’s round you can make tee times to fit your schedule, but you need to make sure you are playing with someone else who is playing in the championship. We have time blocked off throughout the day to accommodate pairing players up. The first tee time for Saturday and Sunday will start at 9:00am 0n #10 tee. All players will be playing the white tee markers for this event.

The Senior Men’s Club Championship (50+ yrs.) sign up are also open using GGID tlsrchamp24. Those seniors 65+yrs have the option of playing the green tees. Saturday tee times will start at 9am on the #10 tee.

PGA Jr League completed its season last weekend. We have now entered the All-Stars part of the program. Our Twin Lakes representatives for this year’s all-star team are Kevin Morris Jr, Andrew Lettice, and Hudson Goretski. We wish all our all-star players the best of luck representing us along with their fellow team members from Glen Acres, North Shore, and Auburn Golf Course.

Junior Camps are halfway through the program. Everything is working out with the back 9 start for the membership while they finish their on-course play on the front 9. A reminder that the driving range on Monday’s does not open until 11:30 during this time. We are using the whole practice facility for the juniors from 8am – 11:30am. The last Monday for our junior program is Aug 26 after which Monday play goes back to its normal hours.

The driving range continues to be busy throughout the day. We still need your help to keep the range balls/buckets on property. We are slowly losing range balls to the down fencing and trying our best to not close the range down other than our Wednesday clean pick/Thursday mow, Fridays from 4-5pm and Sundays from 4-5pm for a light pick. We will be continuing these closure hours of the range but there are times when we run out that we may have to have a pick on Monday afternoons from 4-5pm. Those members wishing to practice in the late afternoon/early evening will still need to call the golf shop for the closure status.

We appreciate everyone’s support in using this range as a practice range and not a Driving Range. In the past, we had a few members that wanted to find out how far they can hit their driver/fairway woods and try to get the balls over the back net. I haven’t heard lately of this problem but If you are noticed hitting the ball too close to be going over the net, you will be asked to drop down to your irons. I wish that we could lengthen the range (as it is only 200 yards long) but we can’t. Please do your best to use the appropriate clubs to stay inside the range parameters.

Now, it’s time to mark your calendars for the following golf course events/closures coming up.

Golf Course Availability/Closure on the following days/times:

Monday August 5, 12, 19, 26 – Golf Course open at 1pm for tee times off #10 (Junior Camp on front 9 till 2:00pm). Driving Range open 11:30 to membership

August 1st Course closed all day- Outside Event – Flo Form

Aug 4 Parent/Jr Scramble at 3:30pm on the Front 9

August 6, 9, 13 Women’s Division Club Championship (Aug 13 will be a back 9 start all day)

August 8 Couples Mixer at 5:30pm

August 9, 10, 11 Men’s Club Championship (10th & 11th back 9 start all day)

August 15 Course closed all day – Outside Event – Young Life

August 22 Couples Mixer at 5:30pm

Aug 22 Course closed most of the day – PSGA Outside Event – tee times off #1

Aug 23, 24 Men’s and Women’s Sr Club Championships (24th back 9 start all day)

Lastly, I know that we are just getting into August…. But do not forget to mark your calendars for the Labor Day Couples event on Sunday, September 1. This is the last couples’ event for this year so start thinking about grabbing your partners. Sign up information and Format will be announced shortly.

Enjoy the great weather and we will see you around the club!

FRIENDS OF THE GOLF COURSE “SANDY” Award

We are excited to name Marv Osterhout as our newest Sandy Award winner.  Since retiring a few months ago, Marv has volunteered his time weekly to sand and seed the course, taking one of our garbage cans and a rake to loosen up the bigger areas and help to get them to germinate new growth.  Just recently, Marv painted over the graffiti in the tunnel for us.  Thank you, Marv, for retiring and all you do for the club both on and off the course.

Greens Committee

Even with warmer and drier weather, John Leslie and his team continue to do a tremendous job all around. The greens remain fast and smooth and the golf course has remained in great shape. We are into the “dog days” of summer, enjoy your time at the course and always remember to do your part and take pride in maintaining our golf course.

John is continuing to work on rehabbing the green side bunkers. We have had positive feedback that the bunkers have been more consistent and in general, nicer to play out of.  Other committee projects in progress:

-Rotted railroad ties removal and/or replacement plan throughout the course
-Cart path repair/replacement plan throughout the course
-Hole #2 tee box steps replacement plan

If you have other ideas or items you would like the Greens Committee to address, you are  always welcome to reach out to us.

As always, please remember actions that you can take to assist our grounds crew: fix pitch marks and use sand to fill divots. Do not drive golf carts over any repaired areas of the course and make sure to get back to the cart path 30 yards before the green. Do not drive around the back side of any greens and you should never drive off the path on any par 3’s. These small actions add up in a big way. Thank you for doing your part to assist in keeping our golf course in the best possible shape.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please email me at tpac14@gmail.com and I will review with the committee.
Cheers,
Tyler Pac
Committee Chair
