Sandblaster December 2023

From our Club President

Erika Sheffield-Stull

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Dear Twin Lakes Members,

We are officially in the last month of the year and the Board of Trustees is already looking at initiatives for 2024. I’m excited to be continuing on the Board next year and appreciate the opportunity the membership has granted me to serve another 3-year term. There’s a lot of positive change on the horizon for Twin Lakes and I can’t wait to see some of our projects come to fruition. Congratulations to Rich Price and Kevin Isherwood on their election to the Board. To those candidates who weren’t elected, I hope you consider serving on a committee, if you aren’t already.

One of the major initiatives facing the club in 2024 is Membership. The Board is looking at various solutions, including engaging an outside resource with a proven track record of rapid membership growth. Fiscal discipline is another area where we have already seen major improvements thanks to our accountant, Alexis, but we have work yet to do and we need to continue to find sources of cash as well as pay down debt. The Board has passed a 9.8% dues increase effective January 1st, 2024 and an email will be sent to all members with details. January bills will reflect this increase.

Our two major projects (golf course pumps and pool renovation) are underway, with parts ordered and plans finalized. Be prepared to see work being done on the golf course as they lay pipework across #9 and #3 soon. We’ll have designated ground under repair areas.

November was a whirlwind of activity at Twin Lakes! Ladies Day was a spectacular success- the Social Committee led by Alyssa Rieker put in amazing effort to create a seamless and fun event with great vendors. Leading up to the Annual Meeting there is a flurry of activity behind the scenes preparing the deck and presentation. I’m proud and grateful for the efforts our Board members and staff who put in extra hours to present a summary of our efforts in 2023 and an outlook on 2024. Thank you to the members who came to hear the presentation, I hope those of you who didn’t make it will read the minutes. The club is trending in a positive direction, but there is work to be done.  Congratulations to our Al Herbers Volunteer of the Year, Kevin Isherwood, he has truly dedicated his time and resources to improving Twin Lakes this year.

The club looks so festive! Thank you to all the volunteers who give an entire day to decorate our club. It truly makes the club look magical. Yet to come in December are the Ugly Sweater Party, Winter Tour #2, Bill & Dan’s New Year’s Eve Tournament and the club New Year’s Eve party. Come enjoy some fun.

With myriad cultural and spiritual reasons to celebrate this season, it’s my wish that you are able to pause and reflect on what makes the season special for you and that you can surround yourself with friends and loved ones.

With sincerity, gratitude and best wishes to you and yours,

Erika Sheffield-Stull

Happy Holidays Everyone! Elizabeth and I loved spending Thanksgiving morning with your families and cute dogs at the Turkey Trot.  Saturday’s brunch hosted by Santa himself gave all of us a happy boost of Christmas magic. The Golf Shop sale grew to be a bright and sweet social mixer which had incredible turnout also. I didn’t know that many people could fit into the golf shop at the same time. Thank you so much for coming out and supporting the club.

It’s inspiring to have so many great events with wonderful energy. We would love to fill the calendar next year with all your favorite party ideas, large and small. Please come see me or chat with any members of the social committee led by Alyssa Rieker to share your inspirations.

In this special time of year, my family and I sincerely hope you can enjoy every possible moment together with your friends and loved ones.

We want to celebrate you each month in the Sandblaster! Email your name and birth month, or your Anniversary month to Janel!

From our Head Golf Professional

To start off, I want to thank all the Members and Staff of Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club for a great 2023.  We had a complete staff change and your patience and support made the transitions easy and smooth.  I am thankful for my position here at Twin Lakes and having me part of your extended family.

On November 11th we had our first Winter Tour event of the season. The format was, a 4 Person 2 Net Best Ball Shamble and the team of Roger Peters, Josh Kuske, Dan Smith, and Bryant Johansen were victorious! They fired a net 114, 30 under par.  The team of Tim Finch, Corey Wilkins, Rob Meinert, and Allan Smith tied for second with a score of 117.

Coming up next Saturday, Dec 9th, we will be having the second of our four Winter Tour events. Looking at the weather forecast, the weather looks semi- favorable as of now, so clear your schedule and join in. Another opportunity to bring friends out for a fun day of golf and show off the golf course. This format will be a Scramble game with a “Naughty and/or Nice” twist. The Sign-Up sheet is on the window in the golf shop! Please gather up your partners and hope for good weather!

For those needing a partner(s), no worries… The golf shop will get you paired up. The price is $35 for members and $60 for guests. Entry Includes breakfast and competition. Guests’ entry also includes the green fee.  (power carts will be an additional cost).

Mark your calendars for Dan & Bill’s New Year’s Eve Day Tournament. The format for this annual tournament is a 4-person poison ball scramble. For this event sign up, stop by, or call the golf shop. Entry fee is $8 for members and guests which includes competition purse (Optional KP, Gross/Net Honey Pots, Skins for an Addi’ll $5’s each).  Guest green fees ($30+ tax), and power carts (17.50 +tax) will be an additional cost.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Member Appreciation Sale. We sold a lot of merchandise which is great, and hopefully you all were able to cross some people off your Christmas list! We still have some warm winter gloves and layering pieces available as well as 30% off golf shoes, so swing by and get some gear for your winter golf.

We have extended the “Spin the Wheel” discount until the 10th for those not able to attend the Holiday Party.  The golf staff are here to help you shop for those last-minute purchases and little stocking stuffers.  Rumor has it that the North Pole elves are saying “What is Christmas without golf balls, gloves, or caps in your stocking on the 25th.

We look forward to sharing the holidays with you and yours so make sure to stop by the golf shop and say hello on your way into the clubhouse to your holiday cheer!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, and glasses up for an exciting/eventful 2024!

Greens Committee

As mentioned in last month’s Sandblaster, the Greens Committee has gone through a number of changes.  We welcome Sara Isherwood, Stephen Sealey, and Matt Howland as new committee members and Tyler Pac has taken over as the committee chair.

This is the time of year that brings us frost delays, wind storms, increased rain, and possibly snow. Thank you to David Milligan and his team for continuing to maintain excellent course conditions through challenging weather.  We are fortunate to be able to golf and enjoy the course year round due to their efforts.

Please do your part to help maintain our golf course: utilize the sand bottles to fill divots, repair ball marks, and follow cart path rules.

One item the committee is focused on currently is reviewing trees throughout the course that cause maintenance challenges to David and his team.  Additionally, we are generating a sand bunker maintenance/replacement recommendation list.  We are also working to identify other beautification opportunities throughout the course, such as tee boxes.

The committee is also working on identifying other goals and initiatives for 2024 and we look forward to providing these updates to you as they develop.

We hope you enjoy the holidays and the golf course!

If you have been to the club recently, you will see the Gingerbread house submissions in the Lobby behind the desk. Be sure to check them out and cast your votes, just don’t eat any of the houses! The categories to vote on are people’s choice, most festive, and most original.

What another fantastic turnout for Twin Lakes 5th annual turkey trot. We had about 75 people, 15 strollers, and 30 dogs enjoy the morning. Although this is a fun time to see our beautiful front nine golf course. There were a few people that sprinted the course. Our first place sprinter, who ran the course in 22 minutes, was Chuck Wolber. Right on Chuck’s heel, was a father son combo. Shaun Helm and his young son Harrison Helm trotted across the finish line in 23 minutes. A big thank you to everyone for coming out. Plus, special thank you to Tom and Elizabeth for their help with coffee, cocoa, and muffins!

Our last event of the year is the Ugly Sweater Contest on Friday, December 8th. This event is in the lounge and is therefore a 21+ event. We will have karaoke going throughout the night and the Ugly Sweater judging will start at 7:30pm. The categories for the contest will be best male, best female, and best team/couple. We can’t wait to see you all there!

As we make our way towards the end of the year, the Social Committee would like to thank you all who came out and supported the events we put on. We enjoy being able to bring some fun and laughter to the club, and we are always looking for volunteers to help make it all possible. The committee currently meets the second Wednesday every month, from 6-7pm. Please contact Alyssa Rieker ( if you are interested in joining the committee.

Here is a flashback to some of our big events this past year. We hope you had a great time, and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
