From our Club President

Russ Meyers

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Greetings,

I would like to say that it was with reluctance and a lot of thought that we as the Board put forth the assessment. We found it to be the only way at this point to address the needs of the course and the Clubhouse. I appreciate your understanding and support.

I understand our obligation to the members to make sure that the money is only used in a way that will better the course and the Club. To that end, I would like to give some timelines of course and Clubhouse improvements:

  • Bunker rebuilds on #2 and #8 will begin this month and should be completed in April. They will be considered GUR and free drop. We will be ordering sod and sand for those traps soon
  • Fairway sanding will be done in March beginning late in the afternoon of March 15 along with the green aeration. We normally close the course for two days for aeration. This year it might be a couple of extra days for the additional course sanding and bunker work.  We will keep you posted
  • Fertilizing the course will be done in March
  • Clubhouse roof cleaning March 16th (3 day project)
  • Bunker sand for remaining traps delivered in April
  • Irrigation head replacements April and May
  • Additional fertilizing in April
  • Chemicals for greens and course improvements April through September
  • Marketing vendor selection in February
  • Website vendor selection in February. Build to be started by end of month (6 week project)
  • Seattle Golf Show March 13th through the 15th at the Puyallup Fair Grounds (10 x20 booth). We will need some volunteers for this.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Of course, with anything you plan in Washington, the dates are weather dependent so they may change a bit but not much.

I was able to attend all the committee meetings in January to help me get a feel for the direction of each of them. There are a lot of very dedicated members running those committees and doing a great job. The only committee we need some help with is the Membership Committee.  We need some enthusiastic new members for that committee.  We are a bit short-handed so please, if you can spare some time, let Bryce or myself know.

You will be sent a small survey very soon asking for some suggestions for future social events and your thoughts on the events we have been doing. Please give us your feedback so events you have enjoyed will continue and please give us ideas for events you would like to see at the Club.  I’m really hoping for some good ideas for families with kids and Junior Proprietary members.

Please help us build our membership.  Tell your friends about the improvements and changes that are going on at our Club. The more we drive membership up, the more cash flow we have for making the Club a better place for all of us. There are many things that need work in addition to what we have started.  We will only be able to tackle those projects with full membership.

If you would like to pay your full assessment with the March billing, we would greatly appreciate it to help us speed up the completion of these improvements.  Thank you.

As always, if you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please contact me. Just not while I’m putting, I already have enough trouble with that.

From our General Manager

TOM COBURN

GENERAL MANAGER

Happy February everyone! After a great January, we are looking forward to a very busy 2026 with lots of fun events and plenty of ways for you to enjoy your wonderful club.

First, I would like to extend a very special thank-you to our golf course crew for the extra work they will be taking on to complete the many new projects.  There are plenty of updates from John, Russ and Tyler so I won’t go into he details here but I want you to know how committed we all are towards bringing you the best possible course conditions we can.  I know assessments are never easy, but I assure you that the money collected has been and will be specifically dedicated to achieving the goals outlined in President Russ Meyers’ letter and will benefit members in all categories.  We will provide many progress updates and, as always, my door is always open if you have any questions at all regarding the projects or project costs.  I appreciate several of our Proprietary members offering to pay the full amount upfront.  We have budgeted the timing of the various projects based on the projected monthly income.  If any Proprietary members would like to pay the full amount in the first billing, please contact me.  The faster we receive the income the faster we can complete the projects.  It is greatly appreciated!

As Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, there are still a few days left to make your reservations for the event! Please call Molly to make your reservations. Additionally, we hope you can join us for Superbowl Sunday! There will be a fun golf tournament in the morning, followed by the football game. If you can’t join us for golf, we would love for you to come and enjoy the game on the big screen in the Lounge with all your friends. Go Hawks!

This year is going to be a great time of membership growth here at Twin Lakes. With the new pool and an increased focus on great course conditions, it is going to become the place everyone will want to join. In the coming weeks, we will be launching many marketing programs, including a new website.  As always, regardless of the marketing efforts we put forth, a large part of successfully growing membership is based on member referrals. If you know anyone who has expressed interest in joining Twin Lakes, now is a great time to reach out and share with them how wonderful it is to be part of such a great club.

I am excited for great year and look forward to seeing you all at the club!

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Hello Everyone!!

You couldn’t tell with the last few days of great weather but with the rain coming back this weekend through the beginning of next week, I hope that Phil is still wrong with his forecast.  I going to side with Buckeye Chuck who did not see his shadow meaning he thinks we’ll have an early Spring.  Finger’s Crossed.

Our next event is scheduled for this weekend on Sunday, Feb 8, our 5th Annual Super Bowl Scramble. We still have room for sign-ups and should be lots of fun prior to watching the Superbowl.  Entry fee for this event is $60 which includes “Kick Off” tailgate breakfast, tournament competition, and “Nacho Bar” afterwards while you watch the game.  Guests are invited to play with their $90 entry which includes their green fee.  Carts are optional at $20 per rider.

We will be having our annual Pro Am Draw evening planned for February 20th. We are waiting for our selections to come back from the PGA section office. Once we get our allocations, we will send out the notification so that you can plan your Pro Am.  For those members new to this program, this Pro-Am allocation draw is an opportunity for our members to travel to local area golf clubs with one of your club professionals and compete against golfers from other clubs.  Keep your eye open for an e-blast with the date and specifics concerning the Pro-am draw.  The email blast will contain a link so that you can see the dates/times/courses.

Mark your Calendars for March 14.  This is when our Winter 2-person event is scheduled for.  27 holes of golf featuring a best ball, scramble, and chapman format all in a full day of play.    CLICK HERE – for registration information.  Men, Women, and Mix teams – 9am Shotgun

Our 2026 calendar of events is geared towards a busy and fun season of golf at Twin Lakes Country Club. With the transition to Live Tourney, we can design personalized portals for our Men’s League, 18-H and 9-H Women’s Divisions, as well as a Membership Event portal that shows all our membership events for the year.  You will now be able to go directly to the live tourney portals to register and view the descriptions of each membership event.  We have also linked our membership golf events to the Twin Lakes Calendar of Events for easy reference as well.  All these avenues have all the registration information needed for you to sign up.  Below are the current portals that we have set up.

MEN’S LEAGUE PORTAL – CLICK HERE to register

WOMEN’S DIVISION PORTALS  –     18-H Division           9-H Division

MEMBERSHIP EVENT PORTAL – CLICK HERE

TWIN LAKES MEMBERSHIP CALENDAR – CLICK HERE

We are currently working with vendors to provide you with individual Fitting Experiences.  We will keep you posted to the dates/times as we get closer to spring.  We will post them on the above portals as well as on the Twin Lakes calendar of events.

Every year with the buzz of new equipment, comes the golfing fever.  So, did anyone say, “Seattle Golf Show”?  it’s coming up March 13-15, and we will have a booth this year.  If you are planning on attending the Seattle Golf Show, taking advantage of the hitting bays to try out the 2026 equipment line, make sure to take notes (or pictures) on the product that you are testing and interested in purchasing.  We can special order the product for you.  Trying before you buy is always what you want to do and this is a great opportunity with all the vendors in one location.  Make sure to swing by our booth while you are there and say hello.  The show is at the Puyallup Fairgrounds this year – easy in and easy out…

We are also starting to put together our spring lesson schedule. Many have taken advantage of Ben’s winter lesson packages.  As we get towards springtime, please know that we are here to help you with your putting, short game, as well as your driver, fairway woods, and hybrids. Have a question or clarification with something you read or watched on the television? Come on in and ask away…. We want to help you understand your swing better.

For the ladies, Kathy is working on her “Swing into Summer” 4–5-person group lessons. Click Here to let Kathy know that you are interested in more information regarding these clinics. For the juniors, Ben has finalized the PGA Jr. League (13yrs & under) and has sent out information for sign-ups to last year’s participants.  If your junior is interested in this program,  Click Here to let Ben know he will get more information to you regarding dates and registration fee. Shortly, we will have information sent out regarding our junior program “Kick Off” and camp dates for 2026.

For those members with private carts, your first half of yearly renewal fees were charged to your account at the end of the year.  We have your 2026 cart stickers in the golf shop for you to pick up.  The second half of the renewal fee is charged July 1.  For all members who ride, we are trying to get carts onto the golf course as soon as possible.  The weather last month didn’t help with the conditions, but we are hoping that the weather will turn to the positive so that we can dry out the course.  As those players have noticed with the last few weeks of frost, we haven’t even been able to get our mowers out to cut the grass, let alone change the cups.  As soon as we can get our mowers on the fairways, we will have an update to the cart restrictions.

We would also like to remind everyone once again that during the cold mornings to call the golf shop to make sure that the course, driving range, putting/chipping area are open for use.  We still have an opportunity of frost delays during this month.  Upon checking into the golf shop prior to starting off, the team will keep you informed of the course conditions and any/all cart restrictions as well as if it is a #1 or #10 tee start.  We are doing our best to get emails out to everyone but still need your help in understanding that if you wake up below 34 degrees outside, plan on a delayed start.

We have a good supply of range balls moving forward so we should only be having to close the range on Monday and Friday afternoons from 4-5pm this month to do clean picks.  We still suggest calling ahead for those late afternoon practices to make sure that you are good to go when you get here.

Stay warm and safe!  We will see you around the club.

Kathy, Ben, Brighton, Logan, Bruce, Leilah, Isabele, Cole, Andrew, Brandon

Greens Committee

We have two new member additions to our committee this year: Shannon Urban and Jeff Eberle. Shannon replaces Karey Wolber; and while Jeff’s 3 year board liaison position on our committee expired, he now joins us as a member. Thank you to Shannon and Jeff for volunteering your time and thank you to Karey for your many years being on the committee.

Our January meeting was highlighted by a presentation given by John Leslie that detailed his budgetary needs for what he needs to run the golf course, along with his plans for maintenance improvements and projects. New Board President, Russ Myers was in attendance, along with our new Board Liaison, Aron DeFaccio.

John’s 2026 game plan meticulously detailed:

-add sand and renovating the bunkers

-increase fairway topdressing (2x per year)

-increase fertilizer and treatments

-improve irrigation supplies, timers, and controls

-continue to upgrade equipment

-continued tree work limbing and strategic removal

-additional work force/labor needs

-continue to clean up the shop/yard

You may have seen in a recent email from the club and Russ Meyers that announced the budget for John and his team will increase in 2026. Russ detailed the benefits that this increase will provide to the long-term health of the golf course, and the club. We are very excited to see the improvements that will come from this not only this year, but for the future of the golf course.

Some recent projects John has worked on that you may have seen around the course:

It would be surprising if this is the only time this is referenced in this month’s Sandblaster, but we have to shout out John for this amazing Seahawks painting on hole #9. GO SEAHAWKS!

Hole #3 Tee box projects

Hole # signs repainted

For other questions, comments, or concerns please email tpac14@gmail.com and/or ssealey16@gmail.com and we will review with the committee.

Thank you,
