Sandblaster January 2024

From our Club President

Bryce Landrud

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Happy New Year Twin Lakes!

It is my pleasure and honor to begin my tenure as your new Board President by writing my first ever Sandblaster article. By now you’ve hopefully experienced the annual New Year’s Eve dinner, party and dance, and have had a chance to check out the club’s website in the coming weeks for upcoming events and get some of them into your calendars.  Next up for golfers will be the Winter Tour #3 on the 13th, followed by the final Tour event on February 3rd.  The Super Bowl Scramble will be on February 11th. The Event Calendar at has numerous non-golf social events, including recurring events like Poker.

I think I speak for everyone at the club when I offer my truly heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Erika Sheffield-Stull for her dynamic and seemingly never-ending efforts in working through and helping secure the assessment required to update our club and golf course.  It would be difficult to overstate the amount of heart and level of effort she put into this.  Thank you Erika!  Having you back as our Vice President is another win for our club (and me for sure!) I also want to thank Denise Harrell for her service to the Board over the past 5 years.  You will be missed, though I’m sure you’ll remain involved on several levels.  With Denise’s departure, please welcome our new member to the Board, Kevin Isherwood.  Kevin’s passion and eye for detail earned him an executive position as our Secretary.  It is going to be a busy year again as we continue our work improving and maintaining the things that make Twin Lakes great.

I grew up nearby and am a lifelong golfer; basically ‘growing up’ during the summers over at North Shore.  Twin Lakes was off limits for me, until I made the Decatur High team in 1973, and got to play here (usually on the back 9) during the golf season.  To those members who must have voted in that first allowance to grant Decatur golf access, thank you; to have been one of the first high-schoolers to participate in a system that has now been in place for 50 years is an honor.  Becoming your golf partner, friend, committee co-member, Board member, and President has been an honor as well.  I am excited and optimistic about our future, and want to invite all others who share that to get involved, sign up, and bring what YOU have to the table!

See you on the course,

Bryce Landrud

From our General Manager

Happy New Year to everyone! Thank you to all who attended our festive New Year’s Eve party. We had an excellent band and lots of cheer for the celebration of what hopes to be a great year ahead. Chef Juan prepared a special meal for the evening and most of the crowd proudly made it past midnight to ring in the new year.

I would like to extend a very special thank you to Dave Milligan, our golf course superintendent, who will sadly be leaving us on January 16th. Dave has done amazing things for Twin Lakes G&CC during his time as Superintendent. He vastly improved the overall playing conditions of the golf course and really made his mark here. He will definitely be missed.

We are looking forward to a very busy 2024 with lots of events and plenty of ways for you to enjoy your wonderful club. I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year!

pool and irrigation project

The pool project is in the latter stages of plan approval, but still on schedule.

Our pump contractor is going to complete most of the pipe routing, connecting and pump installation.  We will be trimming back the shrubbery and small trees around the transformer to allow full access to PSE when they’re ready to install power upgrades.

We want to celebrate you each month in the Sandblaster! Email your name and birth month, or your Anniversary month to Janel!

Happy New Year to Everyone!

We started out our December with the Golf Shop sale.  It was standing room only in the golf shop for two hours.  Chef Juan surprised us with a fantastic buffet that went very nicely with the bar set up by Pinky, as well as a lot of good spins on the wheel.  I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended our annual event.

The weather over the Christmas/New Year’s Holiday week certainly played a guessing game with our golfing opportunity.  With only a couple of days available with sunshine, it was nice to be able to see those that came out and wish them a happy holiday season as well as helping those with their last minute gifts for their friends or loved ones from the golf shop.  On those quiet days when the temperatures were a wee bit cold for most, your visits really helped brighten up our days last month.

Congratulations to the Winter Series #2 winning teams.

2024 promises another year of fun-filled golf at Twin Lakes filled with laughter, fun, camaraderie, and competition.  Our 2024 membership calendar is completed, and we are once again looking forward to providing some new, exciting offerings and playing opportunities in the coming golf season.

We start off this month with our Winter #3 (GGID: winter124) event scheduled for Jan 13.  The format will be “Lone Ranger” Shamble.  Our Winter Series #4 (GGID: winter224) is scheduled for Feb 3. All these events are open to guests.  Member entry fee is $35/ Guests entry fee is $60 (which includes green fee).  Carts are an additional fee.  Sign up sheets are in the golf shop, or you can email us directly to  In addition, don’t forget about our  Superbowl Scramble (GGID: tlscramble24) event for Feb 11.  More information regarding sign ups and entry fees on this event to follow.

If anyone is looking to add to their New Year’s resolution list, you can always add returning all range buckets and unused range balls back to the golf shop when finished using the practice range.  In addition, If you happen to find yourself cleaning of your garage during this time and find any wayward towels, range balls, or range buckets that may have wandered off and found their way to your home, you can return those as well. We appreciate your help in keeping up with our range ball and towel supply.

For those of you that still need to use up your credit book money. We are offering a “Deal of all Deals” display in the golf shop. Starting Jan 15, stop by the golf shop and check out the 50% off rack of men’s and ladies’ apparel, as well as a deep discount on selected golf shoes and golf bags in the shop (in-stock merchandise only).   Keep in mind, If you don’t see anything during this “Deal of all Deals” time, we will start receiving new merchandise mid-February as soon as deliveries are available.

Lastly, we have your 2024 cart Stickers in the golf shop for those members with private carts.  The golf shop has a list of those that have been billed/paid their 2024 cart trail fee.  So, the next time you are by the golf shop, the golf shop staff will get them on your windshield.  A friendly reminder:  Only those members with paid trail fees are allowed to use their cart on the golf course property.

Stay safe and warm – See you around the club!

Greens Committee

Happy New Year!

Our committee thanks Dave Milligan and his team for their constant work in improving and maintaining our golf course. Dave will be moving to another course soon and we are thankful for a great two years with him.  His efforts have noticeably improved the condition and standards of our course.  We wish you the best of luck in the future Dave.

Please do your part to help maintain our golf course: utilize the sand bottles to fill divots, repair ball marks, and follow cart path rules.

Our committee is continuing to work on our bunker and tree maintenance recommendations.

We are working with the board to identify other goals and initiatives for 2024 and we look forward to providing these updates to you as they develop.
