From our Club President

Russ Meyers

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Greetings Members,

The rockets red glare, the bombs busting in air, gave proof through the night you can make a lot of money selling fireworks. We should try that next year as a fund raiser for the club. I hope all of you were able to enjoy the 250th Fourth of July.

Summer is once again upon us. The warmer weather is here and watering the course is in full swing. As all of you all know, the irrigation system is a bit challenging so you will see people out watering and keeping the course green.

We all need to do our part in keeping the course in shape. Please replace divots, fix ball marks on the greens, rake the bunkers and pick up your broken tee’s.

We had a member meeting last week to kick off our new member drive. Attendance was good. Getting new members is the most pressing need currently at the Club. You will get financial incentives, money off your bill if you can get some of your friends to join the Club.

If you’re on social media you might have seen some of our ad’s. So far we have had a good response with over 200 inquires. Tom and Janel are working hard to sign up some new members from this effort.

If you have been using the pool you might have noticed an issue with some of the tiles at the bottom of the pool coming up. We have covered them up with mats so no one gets hurt. The pool company will cover the repairs under warranty. However, the pool must be drained for repairs to take place. This would be a two week process so we are trying to limp by until the end of the season so we don’t interrupt everyone enjoying the pool.

The new website is behind schedule but is coming along. The videos have been shot of the course, pool and the deck. We just need a couple more of the bar and the lounge. This should be done in the next couple of weeks. If you see Erik Kuehlthau around the club, please thank him for the great work and the donation of his time.

We will be having music on the deck on July 17th and again sometime in August. This should be a great time. Please try to attend.

Thanks

From our General Manager

TOM COBURN

GENERAL MANAGER

Happy July! I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day holiday.
It has been exciting to see so many new members getting involved and participating in member functions. Janel, the Membership Committee, and the Social Committee continue to focus on providing a robust calendar of events and opportunities for all members to enjoy the social side of the club, and their efforts have really paid off. I hope our new members have already made meaningful social connections, whether that means finding new friends to visit with at events or fellow golfers to play with whenever you come to the club.
Twin Lakes remains by far one of the most welcoming clubs I have ever been a part of, and that becomes more apparent every time I see all of you warmly welcome new members. I am also excited to share that, on June 19th, with the help of Steve Graves from Creative Golf Marketing, we held a successful kick-off party announcing our new membership promotions. Our beautiful club continues to offer tremendous value. Whether you are a new or long-time member, I encourage you to continue sharing your love of the club with friends and colleagues and invite them to become part of the Twin Lakes family.
A key component of the marketing program is the return of monthly sponsor credits. There is no limit to the number of new members you can sponsor or the number of monthly credits you can receive. This is a great opportunity to reduce your monthly payments while sharing the club with friends. What could be better? Please contact me or Janel Metcalf if you would like new member packets to share with prospective members.
In the next few weeks, you will receive a text notification asking you to opt in to the new Twin Lakes texting notification program. Please click yes! We have a lot of important club information to share, and this form of communication will help us get timely updates to you more efficiently. There will be a number of technology advances at the club over the next several months, and this is just the start!

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Happy July Everyone!

We are halfway through 2026, and it looks like we can finally continue with our sunshine and warmth for a while.

We will be starting junior camps on Monday, July 6.  These junior camps will start at 8am with three hours of instruction followed by play on the front 9 (the older group will play the back 9 at 10:15am).  The golf course will be open to the membership starting at 1pm on the back 9.  Our hope is that the front 9 will open at 3pm when you make the turn.  We want to thank you in advance for your patience as we work around this schedule.  There may be a possibility that the first few member groups (if they start before 1pm) may have to play the back 9 twice but we won’t know until that day.

By the time you receive this newsletter, we would have already had our 4th of July Couples alternate scramble.  Congratulations to our Low Net Winners:      Mike & Donna Luinstra, Jody Johnson  & Cara Nunley, Conor & Dominique McDonald with a net 59.     KP women was Anna Lee 3’9″. KP for men was Scott Heuston 19’1″.

Our next couple’s event is Thursday, July 9th at 5:30pm.  Sign up as a couple (man/woman) and the computer will pair the 4-somes up.  This will be a true mixer.  Think of this as a meet & greet mixer where you can play and get to know members that you have seen around the club but haven’t had the chance to play with. $10 entry per couple.

Right after that, we have the Member Member Event on the 11th & 12th.  This event is open to both men and women.  You can make up men teams, women teams, or mixed teams.  There is a handicap difference of 12 strokes.  If the stroke difference is over the allotment, the higher handicap player will be adjusted.  Senior men (65+) can play from the green tees; all other men will play the white and women will play the gold.  The team entry is $200 ($100 per player) which includes golf, competition purse, and awards banquet/presentation. $40 team cash honey pot entry covers both days. Both days will be a 9am shotgun.  The sign-up sheet is in the golf shop, or you can call the golf shop directly with your pairing.  CLICK HERE for the Live Tourney Link.

The 2026 President’s Cup event started last month.   The pods are ¼ way completed.  A reminder to all players that you all players have until the end of the month to complete their pod matches.  We ask that you keep on track to get these done on time as we move into our Knockout Round format with the winners of each pod.

We are hosting Plateau Men’s Senior Group on the 22nd.  24 players will tee it up between 9-10am and have lunch afterwards.  For those senior proprietary members (50+) interested in getting on the waitlist for Plateau Club on Wednesday, July 8 when we go there or play here on the 22nd , please let Kathy or Jeff Eberle know.  We are in the process of confirming the players as this email is being sent out.

From what I have listed above, you can see that we have a lot of golf events in July.  To help with this communication and the notification of golf course availability and closure, we have provided the list of golf events as well as course availability/closure below so you can plan accordingly.  Please don’t hesitate to call the golf shop with any questions that you may have.  We will be doing our best to get the course open for play as soon as possible to the rest of the membership during these days.

  • Shirts must have both a collar (Mock Collars are allowed) and sleeves.
  • No bare midriff tops, tee shirts, gym wear (sweats, etc.), spandex, or swimsuits allowed.
  • The only types of shorts allowed are golf or tennis shorts with a minimum 6” inseam.
  • Clothing shall not have any off-color slogans.

Exceptions to these rules will apply only for special functions when advertised as such.

It is the member’s responsibility to inform his/her guests of the dress code requirements. The

staff have been directed to inform any member or guest when their attire is not appropriate. Golf Course, Driving Range, Practice Facility privileges may be denied to any member or guest not in compliance with the dress code.

PACE OF PLAY (4:10 hours or less)

One of the key factors that can make or break anyone’s a round is the pace of play.  Helping to maintain a good pace and your position on the golf course is not only respectful to your fellow golfers but also key to creating an enjoyable experience for everyone on the course.  The last thing that anyone wants to do is frustrate your playing partners as well as those playing in the groups behind.

Regardless of your skill level, we would like to help you adopt a mindset of playing “Ready Golf” — and not being afraid to share this concept with your fellow players as you move around the golf course.

Below are some recognized tips for improving pace of play:

“Hit when Ready”: Even if you’re not farthest from the hole, If you’re ready to take your shot and it’s safe, go ahead

Don’t wait on the tee box: If a player isn’t ready, someone else can hit. Don’t wait for formalities if it slows things down.

Be efficient on the greens: If it’s a tap-in, go ahead and finish without delay.  While one player lines up their putt, the others should read theirs.

Pre-plan your shots: As you’re walking or riding to your ball, think about club selection and what club(s) you may want to take with you.

Keep up with the group in front of you: Your correct position on the course is immediately behind the group in front of you, not immediately in front of the group behind you.

Let the group behind you play through: If you are consistently not able to keep up and a gap opens in front of you, invite the group behind you to play through, irrespective of the number of players in the group.

Please respect private property when looking for your golf ball, and use the restrooms provided on the course at holes #6 and #15. Thank you.

Greens Committee

It is an exciting time of year for golf at Twin Lakes! We hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the course and this beautiful weather!

In case you missed it, John Leslie recently released his “Superintendent Updates on the Golf Course.” John describes some of the reasons why the course is in much better shape this year compared to last year at this time. John and his crew have had fewer irrigation breaks, allowing for more time for hand watering necessary areas. They are also benefiting from a new moisture meter, which can give them information that you can’t necessarily see and address potential problems sooner. John also notes that spot spraying a wetting agent on dry areas helps them consume water better, two-week intervals in spraying helps keep the greens healthier, and more fertilizing this year has resulted in healthier turf. These emails from John are highly informative and we encourage you to check them out when they are sent out.

Other projects John and team have been working on:

  • Hole #5 fairway bunker renovations ongoing. Most recently, John placed sod from the grass nursery on hole 14 to prepare the bunker for sand.
  • Irrigation repair on the right side of hole #18
  • Continued monitoring and repair of some sprinkler heads
  • New flags arrived, going back to the red, white, and blue colors

We invite you to visit this maintenance link to view photos of recent completed work!

Maintenance 2026. Thank you to John and his team and the MMC for their hard work and contributions to the beautification and maintenance of the golf course and property.

For other questions, comments, or concerns please email tpac14@gmail.com and/or ssealey16@gmail.com and we will review with the committee.

Women’s Division

June flew by and here we are in July. Looking back the 18 Hole Division started the President’s Cup and that tournament will warp up on July 7th. Our Captain’s Cup matches are all on schedule and that one will be done by the end of this month so we can gear up for the Women’s Division Club Championship on August 4th, 7th & 11th.

Congratulations to our June Ace, Coralee Owsley and Sue Herbert, Low Net of the month. Nice golfing ladies!

Guest Day, open to all Women’s Division members, is on July 30th . Please sign up to bring snacks for the turn and a raffle basket. If you don’t have a basketful of something you can bring whatever you have and the committee will put something together. The $10 competition fee is waived for basket contributors.

For the past 4 years we have had hole sponsors for Guest Day. The money raised has enabled us to make contributions to the Club for improvements. The cost is $100. So, get your group together or go solo and help us with the cause. Cash or checks can be left at the Pro Shop or the Office.

The SWGA City Championship was at Plateau Club in June and we had 4 women play. Thanks for the representation, Sharon Lorenzo, Sue Sohn, Denise Harrell and Janet Sage. Janet won her flight, be sure to congratulate Janet on her accomplishment.

We all want to thank Carolyn Hartman for all of her work on our Protocols and Rules. We voted unanimously to accept the changes on the final version at the meeting in June.

The WSWGA State Senior Championship will be held at Olympia C&GC on September 14th & 15th. Maximum handicap index for entry is 40.0. We will be looking for a house to rent for the nights of Sept. 13th & 14th so anyone interested in a fun girl’s getaway let Sally know by text 206-200-6680 or email sallyai@comcast.net. More info will be available after the WSWGA State Championship this month.

The red and white flags arrived and were put out on the greens! Thanks to John Leslie for helping with the order.

Due to technical difficulties, we weren’t able to post pictures of our Invitational winners last month so here they are!

Have fun on the course, enjoy your friends, happy golfing!

Wow, The Twin Lakes 9 Hole Ladies group is awesome!  We are still averaging 15-17 ladies out every week this season.  We started our June competitions with a Low Net. followed by Yellow, Green, White which really changes your perception of the course.  The course looks so different when you are teeing off from the other tee boxes!  We had a Mutt & Jeff competition which uses only the Par 3’s and Par 5’s, and then we played a Stableford format where it is scored a bit differently.  There is a set value given for a Par, Birdie, or Bogey.  Our final week was a “Maids’ Quarters” team competition which only scores the Par 4’s, (but for the whole team).  Our winning team consisted of Anne Gintz, Tami Greene, Callie Morris and Julie Thornton.  Congratulations to these four ladies….Well played!!

Finally, the 9 Hole division has a seasonal Medal Play which started last week. This competition takes the average of your best 3 scores out of 8 weeks. This determines our 9 Hole champion of the season so hopefully we will all be playing our best for the next 2 months. The course is in really good shape and fun to play…hopefully everyone is out there enjoying it!!
