From our Club President

Erika Sheffield-Stull
President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees
The days are getting longer, daffodil bulbs are starting to push up and early azaleas are starting to show some color. It might not feel like it, but spring is definitely around the corner. A lot is happening around the club, and it’s been great to see some of our snowbird members pop in and out on Friday nights.
We’ve had some frigid temperatures in February and those will continue into March. On those freezing days and nights, the golf course bathrooms will be locked. The plumbing simply can’t take the cold, so plan ahead to time your bathroom breaks at the clubhouse and pro shop. The Winter Two-Person and Glow Ball Tournaments are scheduled this month, so bundle up and come out and play.
Vandalism continues to be an issue with the bathroom on #6, the doors are getting kicked in and it destroys the locks. The club is working on a solution. The bathroom on #15 will be renovated in the next several weeks as well, so be prepared that it won’t be usable during that time.
Improvement projects around the club are in full swing, so please be mindful of our work crews and their equipment. We are retrofitting the hanging lights around the club, starting with the lobby. Important updates and repairs have been made to the kitchen, game rooms and men’s locker room. Repair of wood rot and replacement of the cart barn door at the Pro Shop are in progress. The whole Pro Shop will be painted soon so please don’t park carts near the Pro Shop when the crews are painting to avoid getting any paint spray on your cart. Additional fitness equipment is ordered and being delivered in late March.
We have received bids for the pool renovation. A summary of the proposals will be sent to the membership with renderings and will also be posted in the club lobby for members to review. The proposals are working their way through committees and decisions will be made soon on what to move forward with and how to fund the project. We hope to be able to start the renovation after the 2023 season.
We should have an estimate on the replacement of the course sprinkling system and pumps soon, contractors are now booking out to 2025.
Updated Spring/Summer menus are in progress, we will rotate out some of our less-popular items and add some new ones. Pizza has been so popular we are adding it to our regular appetizers. Prime Rib night will now be the last Friday of the quarter as the cost of Prime Rib has skyrocketed. The kitchen will be focusing on some different buffets for the last Friday of the month, with a more affordable price tag. Come on out and try something new. Easter Brunch is coming up April 9th, make your reservations now before they fill up!
The Legacy Brick Project by the #1 tee is looking really sharp. If you would like to purchase a brick, contact the main office to let them know what you’d like your brick to say. The cost is $200, which goes toward club improvement projects.
Staff and volunteers are working hard to make Twin Lakes a great place to be, I can’t thank them enough.

March is here – that means March Madness is right around the corner along with warmer weather. February weather was – well let’s just say a little disappointing. I want to thank those brave individuals that continue to play during the time of year.
We had a great Valentines dinner – the day didn’t start out so nice due to snow. The Social Committee and the club have put together a great schedule for social events. They are all loaded on the website and we will be sending out reminders through Constant Contact & Facebook. Let’s make this year a great social event year and bring some friends out to enjoy these great events.
Some exciting upgrades are on the way – more fitness room equipment, the golf shop building and pool house will be getting a facelift, snack bar upgrade, ballroom lighting, the bathrooms on hole #6 & #15. The golf course is getting some projects done as well – bunkers on hole #11, #4 & #16 along with the front tee box on Hole #12. Another great upgrade to our driving range – NEW Range balls & mats will be arriving in April. Just a reminder that Social & Associate members are able to use our driving range ($5/bucket) and practice facility.
We are excited to bring back some of the bigger banquets. March 4th & March 25th are two large auction events. The upper dining room will be closed at 2:00pm to get things setup. We still have some room in the summer for events – if you know of someone that is looking for an event venue send them our way.
The golf course is in great shape. Dave Milligan and the crew have done a great job during the offseason. If you see them out there – tell them thankyou (it goes along ways). One thing to keep in mind – we really want to stress that everyone follows the rules and apply golf course etiquette to your round. We want you to have fun – but just remember the golfers playing behind you just want to have fun as well. Let’s really work hard on fixing ball marks, repairing divots, raking traps, playing in 4 hours or less and enjoy the game of golf.

KATHY WAKE
HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL
Hi Everyone!
Every now and then, Mother Nature smiles down on us and gives us a stretch of nice weather in the winter. In the case of the current conditions of snow, freezing rain, temperatures in the teens, we haven’t been so lucky. Hopefully, that was the last of the crazy stuff and we can get back to the usual Pacific Northwest winter weather-rain with intermittent sun.
If you haven’t visited the web site recently, log on and check out the monthly calendar. You will find descriptions of the events as well as links for sign-ups. We are updating the calendar on a regular basis with current dates and events, especially, if tournaments and/or Fitting Dates need to be rescheduled.
We have a few golf events scheduled this month which include the Winter 2 Person that is rescheduled for Saturday the 11th ($60 per person entry). Open to both men and women. Team event with a 27-hole combining the scramble, alternate shot, and chapman formats. Breakfast and box lunch included.
We have our Spring Glow Ball Event on Friday the 17th at 7pm ($30 per person entry). What a great excuse to dress up in green and party with us on the greens!! The money raised goes to the assistant’s fund.
The March “Golf Madness” event will run from Tues, March 14 thru Sun, April 2. During this period, you can declare your round with the golf shop (prior to teeing off) and drop off your completed scorecard at the end of your round that day. This is a match play format using your completed scorecards for all rounds of the event. Depending on the number of sign-ups, there will be brackets, with player divisions and seeding randomly chosen by Golf Genius. $10 per entry. Open to both men and women. Sign-ups sheets are in the golf shop.
Aerification is set up for the week of the 20th. We will aerify 9 holes on Monday and 9 holes on Tuesday. When you check into the golf shop, the staff will let you know which nine you will be playing. For those playing 18 holes, there will be a spot reserved for your second round. The golf shop will let you know what your turn time will be when you check in.
The Pro-Member drawing was held last Friday night for the 2023 Pro-Am schedule. We were able to fill in the events with the attendees that were present. Some members present didn’t receive a spot and have been put on the waitlist. If you were not able to attend and would like to put your name down as an alternate in case of a cancellation, let the golf shop know. We have the schedule posted at the counter.
An update for the junior parents and junior golfers themselves, we mentioned this last month and want to reassure you both that we are almost finished with the PGA Jr. League schedule. We are finishing up finalizing the courses that we are going to play as well as the league and practice dates. We should have the sign-up portal live by March 20 with our “Kick Off” meeting scheduled for mid-April.
For those parents new to the idea of The PGA Jr. League, this program has been bringing friends, families, and communities together through golf. PGA Jr. League has been shifting the way youth golf is learned and played, including the adoption of league play, team golf and scoring with flags and points. All skill levels are welcome, and no prior golf experience is required to participate in the program. Whether your junior is new to the game or has been playing for a while, this is a great opportunity to be part of a team playing different courses and learning the game. All PGA Jr. League games are played in a two-person scramble format. If you are interested in participating this year, and you have a junior golfer that is 7-13yrs, the cost is $400 which includes a “Kick Off” Meeting, 5 practices, “End Of Year” BBQ, 6-7 matches to be played at 4 different courses, uniforms, and most of all… A Lot of Fun! This year we will be allowing a junior member to invite a guest to participate. Contact Kathy for more information.
The Golf Shop recognizes that it is important to “try before you buy” when it comes to golf equipment. The Club is able to offer Equipment Fitting Days and Demo Clubs from the manufacturers. TaylorMade will be here on the 7th 11-3pm and our PXG Demo Day will be on the 31st 12-4pm on the Driving Range. Demo clubs for Cobra, Mizuno, Ping, TaylorMade are starting to arrive in the golf shop as well as new clubs for purchase. Keep in mind that we are just as competitive with pricing of product so give us a change before you go elsewhere for your purchase. The membership calendar on the website has all our scheduled fitting days.
Now that we are into the month of March, we want to make sure that everyone understands that March 31 is the last day to use your 2021 credit book winnings. We have had new merchandise arriving daily at the golf shop as well as the new Cobra and TaylorMade 2022 Driver and fairway wood demos for you to try. If you want something special ordered, we can make those arrangements as well. We are here to help.
CALLING ALL SENIOR MEN! If you are 50, like friendly competition, enjoy playing other nice courses in the area, then I believe you will be well rewarded for joining our team. Our exchange courses this year include Fairwood G&CC, AlderBrook G&YC, and Kitsap CC. As a starting point to filling the 16 player rosters, I have assumed that all 2022 members are returning. Please contact the golf shop to get registered. No cost to sign up but there is a $35 entry fee when you play in the exchanges.
Lastly, we are back to posting scores in the GHIN system so don’t forget to do so. If you need to activate your USGA handicap, let us know. The $39 annual fee will be charged to your membership account.

Greens Committee
If you recall from last month the Green Committee submitted two projects to the Board of Trustees for approval and go ahead. These projects are the interim plan for hole 6 and 7 and the gravel cart path in front of the white tee box on hole 10. Both of these projects were approved by the Board of Trustees. You should see work starting on these projects in the near future.
In addition to the projects noted above the grounds crew has been busy with other projects improving the course and reducing maintenance. The back bunkers on hole #11 have been reworked to convert them to grass bunkers. The back left bunker on hole #4 has also been reworked to a grass bunker. The tree to the right of #18 green has been limbed to improve access to the green.
Dave Milligan, our Superintendent, is also working to improve our tee boxes. You will see the white tee marker on hole #18 moved forward and back to allow the grass on this tee box to have a better chance of growing. Additionally, he is trying a technique of aerating and rolling tee boxes to gradually eliminate crowning.
Other projects currently planned where work will start soon are:
- Hole #12 – The forward (yellow) tee box will be lengthened front to back
- Hole #16 – The right green side bunker will be reworked into a grass bunker
As always, a big thank you to Dave Milligan and his team. The course is in fantastic condition despite the crazy amount of snow and the many frost delays we have encountered. The team is doing a great job in managing frost delays and getting us out as soon as possible. The course is in great condition.
As a reminder, utilize the sand bottles and fill your divots and remember to fix your ball marks on the green. It is also important to follow the cart path rules and stay on the cart paths when asked to do so by the pro shop. Considerable damage can be done by driving on the course impacting maintenance hours and tasks. This is your course, and these are very easy things to do that really help with maintenance of the course. Enjoy yourselves out there, the course is in fantastic condition.

Women’s Division
March has finally arrived and spring will be here in a couple weeks along with the Women’s Divisions start of the golf season Tuesday March 7th. February 28th was the Kick Off dinner. Captain Sherry and her helpers did a fantastic job! Was a very fun evening.
Kathy Reed
Women's Division Secretary

Kathy started golfing when she was 55 at Twin Lakes. She took up golf because she loves the outdoors and it is a great way to make new friendships. The best thing about golf is the enjoyment of improving her game and playing with friends. Kathy has yet to make a hole-in-one but has come close.
Suzy Eberle
Women's Division Treasurer

Suzy started golfing 10 years ago at Twin Lakes. Suzy started golfing when her kids were gone and her husband thought she would love golf, and she does. Best thing about golf is spending time golfing with her Husband and friends. Suzy has had one Hole-in-One on #16.
