Every now and then, Mother Nature smiles down on us and gives us a stretch of nice weather in the winter.  In the case of the current conditions of snow, freezing rain, temperatures in the teens, we haven’t been so lucky.  Hopefully, that was the last of the crazy stuff and we can trust Punxsutawney Phil with his prediction of early spring. Last month we had our annual Super Bowl Scramble.  Congratulations to our AFC Championship Team of Michael Gintz, Justin Thornton, and Chris Coovert with their 73 Stableford points.    GGID tlsuperbowl24 

We also were able to get one last Winter Series event finished.   Congratulations to Brad Haley and his guests on their first-place finish with 93 stableford points with our Lone Ranger Shamble format. GGID tlwinterf24

This week we started up with the ladies’ 18 & 9-hole leagues.  A reminder that tee times on Tuesdays are blocked from 10-12am and 4-5pm, respectfully for ladies only.  In addition, we are in the process of moving the ladies #2 tee box to the right of the cart path until we can get the steps upgraded.  To help with this transition, we are asking all walkers (both men and women) refrain from using this teeing area as a walking path as to keep the turf usable for teeing off.

For the men regarding your 2024 Men’s Invitational June 6-8th, we will be sending out a constant contact message to all proprietary golfing members with all the information for the event as well as the sponsorship opportunities. 

March Month at a Glance 

If you haven’t visited the web site recently, log on and check out the monthly calendar.  You will find descriptions of the events as well as links for sign-ups. We are updating the calendar on a regular basis with current dates and events, especially, if tournaments and/or Fitting Dates need to be rescheduled.  

We have a few golf events scheduled this month which include the Winter 2 Person that is rescheduled for Saturday the 16th ($65 per person entry).  Open to both men and women.  The team event has been changed to a 18-hole combining the scramble, best ball, and chapman formats.  Breakfast burritos and deli lunch buffet included. 

 We have our Spring Glow Ball Event on Friday the 15th at 7pm ($40 per person entry).  What a great excuse to dress up in green and party with us on the greens!!  The money raised goes to the assistant’s fund.  Come out an support Ben’s PGA associate training program. 

The March “Golf Madness” event this year will run from Monday, March 4 thru Sun, April 7.  During this period, you can declare your round with the golf shop (prior to teeing off) and drop off your completed scorecard at the end of your round that day.  This is a match play format using your completed scorecards for all rounds of the event.  Depending on the number of sign-ups, there will be brackets, with player divisions and seeding randomly chosen by Golf Genius. $10 per entry.  Open to both men and women. Sign up in the golf shop and declare before starting your round of golf. 

 Aerification is set up for the week of the 18th.  We will aerify 9 holes on Monday and 9 holes on Tuesday.  When you check into the golf shop, the staff will let you know which nine you will be playing.  For those playing 18 holes, there will be a spot reserved for your second round.  The golf shop will let you know what your turn time will be when you check in.

The Pro-Member drawing was held on Friday, Feb 23 for the 2024 Pro-Am schedule.  We were able to fill in the events with the attendees that were present.  Some members present didn’t receive a spot and have been put on the waitlist.  If you were not able to attend and would like to put your name down as an alternate in case of a cancellation, let the golf shop know.  We have the schedule posted on the window in the golf shop. 

  Update for the junior parents and junior golfers themselves, we mentioned this last month and want to reassure you both that we are almost finished with the PGA Jr. League schedule.  We are finalizing the courses that we are going to play as well as the league and practice dates.  We should have the sign-up portal live by end of March with our “Kick Off” meeting scheduled for mid-April.  Password to sign up will be 2024pgajr when live. 

For those parents new to the idea of The PGA Jr. League, this program has been bringing friends, families, and communities together through golf.  PGA Jr. League has been shifting the way youth golf is learned and played, including the adoption of league play, team golf and scoring with flags and points.  All skill levels are welcome, and no prior golf experience is required to participate in the program.   Whether your junior is new to the game or has been playing for a while, this is a great opportunity to be part of a team playing different courses and learning the game.  All PGA Jr. League games are played in a two-person scramble format.  If you are interested in participating this year, and you have a junior golfer that is 7-13yrs, the cost is $450 which includes a “Kick Off” Meeting, 6 practices, 6-7 matches to be played at 4 different courses, uniforms, and most of all… A Lot of Fun!   This program is open to all proprietary, social, associate members as well allowing members to sponsor a guest to participate.  Contact Ben or Kathy for more information.   

The Golf Shop recognizes that it is important to “try before you buy” when it comes to golf equipment.  The Club has set up Equipment Fitting Days with our vendors.  Cobra will be here on the 14th 3-6pm and TaylorMade Demo Day will be on the 21st 11-5pm on the Driving Range.  Keep in mind that we are just as competitive with the pricing of products so give us a change before you go elsewhere for your purchase. The membership calendar on the website has all our scheduled fitting days.   

Now that we are into the month of March, we want to make sure that everyone understands that March 31 is the last day to use your 2023 credit book winnings.  If you want something specially ordered, we can make those arrangements.  We are here to help you spend that money before it expires. 

Calling all senior men!  If you are 50, like friendly competition, enjoy playing other nice courses in the area, then I believe you will be well rewarded for joining our team.  Our exchange courses this year include Plateau Club, AlderBrook G&YC, and Kitsap CC.  As a starting point to filling the 16 player rosters, I have assumed that all 2023 members are returning.  Please contact the golf shop to get registered.  No cost to sign up but there is a $35 entry fee when you play in the exchanges.   

Don’t forget that we are back to posting scores in the GHIN system so don’t forget to do so.  If you need to activate your USGA handicap, let us know.  The $39 annual fee will be charged to your membership account. 

Lastly, we have a new associate, Bruce Micheau, in the golf shop.  We are excited to bring Bruce into our family. He is a retiree from Boeing so he will have plenty in common with many of you.  He is an avid golfer as well.  Next time you’re in the pro shop or at the clubhouse, please stop by and introduce yourself.
