From our Club President

Erika Sheffield-Stull

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Hello Twin Lakes!

As March blows in, I’m happy to share some updates and events going on at the club! It seems we could finally be out of the woods with Frost Delays on the golf course and we may get a stretch of dry weather here at the beginning of the month. I hope you’re able to come out and play golf.

The Women’s Division kicked off their 2025 season at a luncheon on March 1st and league golf started Tuesday the 4th. There’s still room to sign up for the winter Two-Person on March 8th and Glow Ball will be March 14th. Aerificaton is March 17-19.

You may have noticed some damage to the left side of the bunker and rough on #3. We had a vehicle drive through the fence and end up in the left side bunker after the driver experienced a seizure. Fortunately, and rather unbelievably, the driver only experienced some bumps and bruises, no golfers or staff were hurt and the golf course experienced minimal damage. Please pay attention to your surroundings, wherever you are on the golf course.

Also related to hole #3, we have worked with Federal Way City to repair the leak that has caused the level in the pond to drop over the past few years. John and his crew removed the chain link fence and have replaced it with a more attractive rock border. We look forward to the visual improvement of this area!

The club continues to pack the calendar with Social Events. The Oscars Watch party was a lot of fun and likely to return next year. Our monthly Trivia Night will be at 7PM on March 21. RSVP for the Charcuterie Board class on the 22nd and come to the wine tasting that same evening! Rock and Roll Bingo will be debuting in April, so watch for that club announcement! I have had so much fun at the club in 2025 at these events, whether hosting or attending. Many of you have pulled me aside to share your enthusiasm of the club leadership this year and I appreciate all the kind words. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely, Erika

GENERAL MANAGER

Happy March Everyone!

We are so close to spring!  The weather is trying to get better and course conditions are great.  Our Greens Superintendent, John Leslie, and his professional staff have been able to take advantage of the bad weather by tackling a few projects. The one with the most impact is the pond on #3. John was able to fix the weir at the exit which will allow him to raise the water level in the lake.  The overall goal is to improve the pond visually as well as the great goal of getting the fountain working again!  It will be a great achievement and really important to restore the fountain.  As I mentioned before, we are truly lucky to have this team of professionals.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Oscar Watch Party. Hopefully your favorites won their category.  It was a great evening with some wonderful specials prepared by Chef Juan and his staff.  The Salmon Lox Wrapped Asparagus was a particular hit of the evening.  The Twin Lakes Social Committee has done a really nice job putting together a really nice schedule of events for the year that should include something for everyone.  I really appreciate their help in decorating the day of and helping with the details to make the events special.

You may have seen some of the pictures of the events on the social media.  Janel has done a great job getting the Instagram account up and running.  Please make sure you follow us so that you can see what is happening at the club. As always, keep an eye out for emails from Janel regarding upcoming events. With the help of the Social Committee, the calendar is full of wonderful opportunities to come to the club and enjoy time with friends. Hope to see you all there!

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Hi Everyone!

Every now and then, Mother Nature smiles down on us and gives us a stretch of nice weather in the winter.  Wow! Was that the case this past weekend.  Saturdays’ tee sheet was like a midsummer day.  Hopefully, these current conditions will continue and the days of snow, freezing rain, temperatures in the teens, will find somewhere else to go.  I am certainly looking forward to the golfing season starting and playing in the pro-ams that are scheduled with you all this coming year.

We have many new members this past few months.  A reminder for them as well as for the family members on the memberships.  If you haven’t set up a profile on the web site, please do so.  This way you can put all your family members’ names on the tee sheet when making your tee times.  We have received phone calls regarding your email confirmations showing fees that will be charged upon check-in.  The system only knows what you put down.  If the family members show up as guests, it is just letting you know what the guest fees will be, along with the charges.  Nothing is charged to your account until you check in on the day of the play.  This is just a notification of your reservation.

Our new carts are up and running as of a few weeks ago.  Those members that have been using them have given us very positive feedback.  We are now assigning the cart #’s to the reservation.  Please be mindful and take the cart that you are assigned to.  By this method, we can locate the reservation and charge the account accordingly if there is any damage to the vehicle.

A reminder to all members that have private carts that tow them in from home.  The upper parking lot is where you park your trailers.  Please do not park in the main lot as we need this space for the fellow members and guests using both the golf course as well as the clubhouse facilities.

For those members that have private carts, we will have your carts stickers available for pick up after March 15th.

We have a few golf events scheduled this month which include the Winter 2 Person that is scheduled for this next Saturday the 8th ($65 per person entry).  Open to both men and women proprietary members.  The team event with an 18-hole combining the scramble, alternate shot, and chapman formats.  Breakfast and lunch included in the entry fee along with the competition purse.

We have our Spring Glow Ball Event on Friday the 14th at 7pm ($40 per person entry).  What a great excuse to dress up in green and party with us on the greens!!  The money raised goes to the assistant’s fund that helps support Ben with his education and PGA sanctioned event.

The annual March “Golf Madness” event will run from Tues, March 11 thru Sun, April 9.  During this period, you can declare your round with the golf shop (prior to teeing off) and drop off your completed scorecard at the end of your round that day.  This is a match play format using your completed scorecards for all rounds of the event.  Depending on the number of sign-ups, there will be brackets, with player divisions and seeds randomly chosen by Golf Genius. There is no entry fee for this event – Just a Pro Shop “Kick Off” to the golf season.  Open to both men and women.  Sign-ups sheets are in the golf shop.  Who knows… you may be the winner of a dozen golf balls.

This week we started up with the women’s 18 & 9-hole leagues.  The tee times on Tuesdays that are blocked from 10-11:30am and 4-5pm, respectfully are for ladies only.

The date is set for the 2025 Women’s Invitational: May 24-25th.  Contact Frankie Stephens for more information and an entry form.

The date is set for the 2025 Men’s Invitational: June 4-7th, information will be sent out via constant contact to all proprietary golfing members with the event information as well as sponsorship opportunities.  Make sure to get this time set aside and start getting your 4-some teams together.  Note: the maximum number of members per group is 2.

Aerification is set up for March 16, 17, 18. The schedule right now:  Aerify Sunday afternoon – Front closed starting at 3pm.  Course Closed all day Monday.  Only 9 Holes open on Tuesday as we finish up the process.  All players playing on Tuesday, when you check into the golf shop, the staff will let you know which nine you will be playing.  Regarding Tuesday play, the women have their standard block of tee times.  For the early players, let us know when making your reservation that you will be playing 18 holes so that we can block off your turn time for your second 9 holes.  The golf shop will let you know what your turn time will be when you check in.  Please be patient and understand that everyone is sharing the course on this day.  We are basing turn times on a 2 hour 9.

The Pro-Am Member drawing was held a couple of weeks ago and we have the schedule posted in the golf shop.  We also sent an email about this schedule.  We were able to fill in the events with the attendees that were present.  If you were not able to attend and would like to put your name down as an alternate in case of a cancellation, let the golf shop know.  In addition, if you can’t make your posted event, the sooner you let us know, the sooner we can let an alternate know and plan.

Ben has completed the PGA Jr League schedule and has been accepting sign-ups for both 13U and 17U programs.  For those parents new to the idea of The PGA Jr. League, this program has been bringing friends, families, and communities together through golf.  PGA Jr. League has been shifting the way youth golf is learned and played, including the adoption of league play, team golf and scoring with flags and points.  All skill levels are welcome, and no prior golf experience is required to participate in the program.   Whether your junior is new to the game or has been playing for a while, this is a great opportunity to be part of a team playing different courses and learning the game.  All PGA Jr. League games are played in a two-person scramble format.  If you are interested in participating this year, and you have a junior golfer that is 7-17 years of age – Contact Ben for more information.

CALLING ALL SENIOR MEN!  If you are 50, like friendly competition, enjoy playing other nice courses in the area, then I believe you will be well rewarded for joining our team.  We are in the process of setting up our exchange courses this year.  The exchanges are usually held on Wednesdays or Thursdays around 9am.  As a starting point to filling the 16 player rosters, I have assumed that all 2024 members are returning.  Please contact Jeff Eberle or Kathy to get registered.  No cost to sign up but there is around a $35 entry fee when you play in the exchanges. This entry fee includes green fee, competition purse, lunch.

Lastly, we are back to posting scores in the GHIN system so don’t forget to do so.  If you need to activate your USGA handicap, let us know.  The $39 annual fee will be charged to your membership account.

See you around the Club!

Kathy, Ben, and Golf Shop Operation Staff

Greens Committee

We had quite some weather in February as the sub freezing temperatures caused the golf course to be closed for a number of days and the wind storm last week left lots of debris. Even with these challenges, if you have been on the golf course recently, chances are you enjoyed the playing conditions. Thank you to John Leslie and his team for their efforts and continuing to maintain excellent conditions during a challenging time of year. Thank you also to Kevin Isherwood’s Monday Morning Maintenance volunteer team. The weekly dedication and work they are doing to assist in beautifying the golf course is incredible! Recently they cleaned up the #10 and #3 tee box areas, manicured the hedges along #3 and the parking lot, worked on the driving range netting, and much more!

As always, John and his team has been productive with projects throughout the course:

  • Removed cedar tree behind #10 green. This allows much easier maintenance in this area, and also provides a clean look between #10 and #11 greens.
  • Tree limbing on the right side of hole #15 and cleaning up the hillside to increase playability in this area has begun.
  • Hole # 3 pond clean up has begun. Chain link fence has been removed.
  • Rotted staircase on hole #2 forward tee box have been removed.

We as a committee will continue to work with John and focus on various items. Potential upcoming projects we have discussed:

  • Continue bunker rehabs- start on the back 9
  • Hole 15 hillside playability
  • Concrete tiles replacing old stairs on hole 2 tee box
  • Hole 3 pond cleanup: fence, edges, fountain, etc.
  • Hole 3 hillside clean up in between blue and white tees

With a few days of sun and calmer weather, and the constant effort from John and Kevin’s team, the golf course is looking incredible. Spring is near, the posting season has started, the golf season has arrived!

If you have other ideas you would like the Greens Committee to address, you are always welcome to reach out. For other questions, comments, or concerns please email me at tpac14@gmail.com and I will review with the committee.

Thank you,

Women’s Division

Captain Frankie Stephens planned a really nice Kick-Off for the Women’s Division on March 1st.  Seasoned veterans, Diana Rawlings, Karey Wolber, MiChong Kim and Sharon Lorenzo welcomed everyone and took care of business for us.  We welcomed new members Shannon Urban, Brittney Rivers and Kim Nemethy.  Frankie and Kathy Wake ran the show that wrapped up with a game of Bingo that everyone enjoyed.  Denise Harrell spoke about SWGA and Sally Irvine about WSWGA and Major Tournaments.  If anyone has questions about those activities, please refer to your brand new 2025 Calendar (Thank You Ilima!) for contact information.

Our first 1st competition is on Tuesday, March 4th with Ace Day for both divisions and WSWGA for the 18 Hole division.  Don’t forget posting scores began on March 1st.

Thank you all for the great turnout to kick off our 2025 season.  Let’s make it a good one full of fun and friendship!
