Hello Twin Lakes and Happy May!
We have had a stretch of beautiful weather and looking at the forecast, it doesn’t seem to be stopping! We have fired up the new pumps and the sprinklers are running. The pond and fountain look just amazing, especially at night. Golf season is here!
The golf course looks terrific. Even when we’ve had heavy rain, the greens are draining well and are rolling. Please pay attention to the new growth/seeded areas of the golf course- we need folks to avoid driving over those areas with carts so the grass can grow.
I want to say a huge Thank You to the ball droppers for raising funds among their group to pay for new flags and flag sticks for the golf course. Some of their remaining funds combined with the funds from the raffle of the reserved parking spot will help to pay for new bunker rakes.
Speaking of the parking spot raffle, Terri Stewart is the lucky winner! She will have the Reserved spot in the parking lot until May 1 of next year, congratulations! The raffle raised $740!
At last count, we have 8 tournaments booked for the season when the golf course will be reserved for outside groups. These are a key source of revenue for the club, so please pay attention to the golf calendar and work with the Pro Shop to set up a tee time at one of our reciprocal clubs on those days. We also have several internal tournaments including the Men’s Invite, Women’s Invite, Member-Member and Battle of the Sexes!
We’ve had several new proprietary members join Twin Lakes since the start of the year and interest in the club is picking up! Please say hello to the new members you see around the club. The New Member Meet and Greet was a success and we plan to continue this event, likely quarterly. Our continuation of the preview membership has been very effective, thanks to Tom and Janel for all the tours and information they provide to potential new members!
This year marks the first full pool season since our renovation and we are looking forward to opening Memorial Day Weekend.
We have a fun-packed Social schedule coming up for the summer. By the time this article is published, the Kentucky Derby Event will be in the books. Come out for our annual Food Truck event on July 14th, Martini and Jazz July 18th, Summer Bash August 15th and monthly Trivia nights.
It isn’t totally clear how the Chinese tariffs that were implemented by the current administration will impact the golf industry. Suffice to say that billions of dollars of components and raw materials have effectively ceased shipping from China which will cause shortages in all types of products. We will navigate these challenges the best we can and will communicate any impacts as we encounter them.
Warm Regards, Erika

Before I start my article, I have a “Big” thank you to mention to John Leslie and your staff, for all your hard work and dedication in getting our golf course in great shape for us. The maintenance staff has done a fantastic job in getting us through this past winter and through the first half of this. It was cold and wet and your dedication to the golf course is greatly noticed and appreciated by all who play golf. We are now ready to “Rock N Roll” going into May.
Now going forward, we just need to be mindful that we continue filling our divots with the provided sand/seed and repair those ball marks left on the greens during rounds. I understand that many members do not believe you leave a mark on the green with your approach shots but please look around and fix those that you see. If we all do our part to help, the greens will always be nice and smooth and the fairways in great shape for our enjoyment.
Speaking of the course, being in great shape. What a great weekend for golf we just had. We had a good turnout for this event despite a conflict with other golf tournaments that members attended outside of the area. Congratulations to our Low Gross Winners: Andrew Ziltener & Justin Thornton with their 2-day total 169. We had a tie with our Low Net Winners: Shaun Garrison & Daniel Lucero along with Stephen Sealey & Tyler Stone with their 2-day total of 165. Thank you to all participants and the sun god for a great weekend.

PRACTICE RANGE CLOSURES: Wednesdays at 5pm – Thursday 8am (full clean pick for mowing); Friday’s 4-5pm (short pick); Sunday’s 4-5pm (short pick)
We have done an excellent job with the practice range keeping range balls in stock as well as the continuous mowing to keep the grass height down on the hillside for ease of picking. We are still experiencing the diminishing of our range ball supply which we anticipate with the loss of the netting on the back of the range but these past three weeks we had to put 2k balls into circulation which is quite a lot. For those wanting to hit their drivers, please refrain from hitting it or any club which will cause the balls to fly outside the back netting.
With the supply of range balls that we will be able to provide for the rest of the year, we need your help in keeping these range balls inside the complex as well as returning your buckets after using the range. If by chance you find a bucket in your golf cart, car trunk, or garage, please bring it back. We seem to keep mentioning this bucket shortage problem, but it is an ongoing problem. Be kind and fair to the other members who would like to practice as well. A reminder to the associate and social members using the practice range, the price per bucket is $8.
We want to remind all members to please make sure to call the golf shop and/or look online for the availability of tee times, especially during these dates. If you need help scheduling a tee time with one of our reciprocal courses during any of these days, please call the golf shop and we will do our best to help you set up your neighboring visit.
MEMORIAL DAY COUPLES EVENT: We will have the Memorial Day couples’ tournament on Sunday the 25th with a 1:00 shotgun start. The first tee will be with tee times available before 10:30am. The format for the event is Alternate Shot Scramble. The teams are made up of three couples. You can sign up as a team or if you want to play but do not have a full team, we will help you find other couples to make a team. For those of us who have been here, let’s ask some of the newer members to join in on the fun. This is a fun event. The format calls for the ladies to tee off on odd numbered holes and then you select the best drive of the ladies, and the men then hit the second shot and repeat this sequence until the golf ball is holed. The men will tee off on the even numbered holes repeating the process of always alternating between men and women. Call the pro shop and sign yourselves up for a fun afternoon.
MEN’S INVITATIONAL JUNE 5-8: There are still a couple of spots available. If you are interested in signing up for this event or need more information, please contact the pro shop or the club’s office for an entry form. It is four days of golfing, fun events, and lots of great food.
ONLINE TEE TIME RESERVATIONS: We want to remind everyone that if you have not set up your tee time profile to please take the time to go online and register. This way the staff knows exactly who is playing in your group. This will help facilitate the staging of golf bags, push carts, and golf cart rentals as we get into the season. If you need us to send you a reset password link, let us know. It only takes a push of a button to get this started.
Lastly, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and non-moms out there. Enjoy your special upcoming weekend. If you want to hit the ball around on your special day, please come out and use the putting green, practice green, practice range, and/or the golf course after you have brunch with us.
Fingers crossed that the sun continues to stay out so we can break out the sunscreen and start golfing in shorts.
See you around the club!
Kathy and Golf Operations Staff
The sun is out, flowers are blooming everywhere, the grass is green and growing, and league play has started. Spring is in full force and the golf course is looking beautiful and the playability has been excellent thanks to John Leslie and his team’s constant efforts. The fairways and greens are firming up and it has been refreshing to see tee shots roll out almost as much as they will in the summer. The greens are fast and true. It is truly a great time of year for golf.
We need all members during your round of golf to be on the lookout and aware of where you are walking. We have noticed areas around the course that have been seeded and filled and we are seeing even when a rope or warning sign is present, people are still walking/pushing a cart through these delicate/growing areas. Please pay attention to where you are going and be on the lookout for areas under repair and avoid them.
As always, John and his team has been productive with projects throughout the course:
We as a committee will continue to work with John and focus on various items. Potential upcoming projects we have discussed:
As a reminder to all members and your guests, please do your part to assist with course conditions by following cart path rules, repairing pitch and ball marks, and sanding your divots. These small efforts add up in a big way and help the golf course recover more quickly.
If you have other ideas you would like the Greens Committee to address, you are always welcome to reach out. For other questions, comments, or concerns please email me at tpac14@gmail.com and I will review with the committee.
Thank you,
Tyler Pac

Kentucky Derby, May 3rd
A historic, eagerly anticipated event, that again was a smashing success from its start at 1pm to race end at 4pm, with guests partying well into the evening.
As always, anticipation was high for the most exciting two minutes in sports, but as fans well know, it’s all about fashion and the best excuse to dress to the nines. Guest watched in awe as 13 females glided down the runway vying for overall best-dressed, wearing bold floral prints, delicate pastels, and capped by stunning wide-brimmed hats. Three handsomely dressed men competed for best dressed male cheered by onlookers. While choices were difficult to make in selecting the winners, judges Randy, Jimi, and Molly decidedly chose Megan DeFaccio as best-dressed female and Jason Craig as best-dressed male.
Joel Garrido entertained the crowd with trivia throughout the event, posing 30 challenging Derby questions, with one fan, Jeff, emerging as the champion for giving the most correct answers, followed by Frankie.
Substituting a virtual chicken this year due to bird flu virus concerns, Chicken Poop winners collected a $165 purse and 2 $168 cash prizes, respectively, by drawing the correct square randomly selected from one of the three 100 squares boards.
The main event is always the 50/50 raffle, that in addition to the final cash prize ($500 this year) included 16 great prizes from special gift baskets to sports tickets, chocolates, several bottles of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, bottles of Cabernet, Chardonnay and Champagne, as well as numerous valued gift cards to local businesses, and the traditional dozen long-stemmed red roses.
Special shout out to Tom Coburn running Parimutuel betting and providing a colorful Kentucky Derby Betting Guide listing the ratings, pros, cons, rich pedigree backgrounds, and prior wins of each horse, its trainer, jockey, and owner. Thanks also to Kathy Wake, assisting Tom in expertly calculating payouts in record time.
