Summer is over on the golf course, that’s for sure! Seems like it happened fast; everything was wonderful, playable, carry- able, bounce and run-able, and now it’s three layers of clothes, playing shorter tees, and checking the weather every hour to see if it might be playable out there.
I don’t really care all that much myself; as a lifelong Federal Way resident working outside virtually my entire adult life, I’ve always figured that if I could work in it I could play in it too. That’s not quite as true now as it used to be…
Today, for instance, though it was great weather for golf, my wife Janis and I got to spend the day at the Ladies Day brunch and bazaar in the ballroom. I saw for myself the group of Social Committee members at work and all they did to pull this off. Led by Alyssa Rieker (1 month after bringing a baby girl into her family’s life!), this group did a masterful job of pulling off a wonderful event.
We are now wrapping up our year, and next on tap is the Annual General Meeting and election. We hope you will attend, share your voice, and possibly find a place within this great club to put your skills forth to help out. We have made tremendous movement forward in the past 18 months, but there is more to do, to figure out, to plan for. Please open and fill out the Membership Survey as soon as you can. This survey is key to develop both our short- and long-range goals, and is the only reliably accurate way we can track what you, our members, enjoy or dislike, want to have or get rid of, so that we can have a collective idea of what’s really the most IMPORTANT to us as a collective.
I want to thank you all for your contributions to our club. We’ll go into that more at the Annual Meeting, but your work and efforts are seen or felt on a daily basis.
See you all soon (Nov. 20!); I’ve got to go check the weather again to see how bad it’s going to be tomorrow……

Wow… what a change to the weather we have had the past couple of weeks…..
It has been a pleasure to see members and their guests this past week come out between the raindrops and weather forecasts for a round of golf as well as afternoon practice time. Against all odds, once again we were able to squeak in the inaugural Twin Lakes Ryder Cup in between the predicted weather. And an absolute hit it was! We had our 36 members which were broken into three teams (Team Coburn, Team Wake, and Team Bergner). Team Bergner won the Twin Lakes Ryder Cup with 18 points. Team Coburn and Wake each had 13.5 to tie. Team Bergner was in the lead after Round 1 (Front Nine Best Ball, Back Nine Chapman) and never looked back. As always… The event came down to the Singles Matches as Team Bergner held their ground to take the 2024 cup. Congratulations to Adrienne Bailey, Bryce Landrud, Denise Harrell, Daniel Lucero, Kent Schwartzenberger, Matt Howland, Frankie Stephens, Red Elder, Maribel Harrell, Terry Thomas, Regan Miyamura, and Russ Meyers for a job well done!
Going into the winter months with the hours becoming limited, we are going to do our best to limit the closure of the range in the early afternoons. As we enter the wetter months with the range, having to still pick by hand, we would like to remind everyone to call ahead to make sure that the range is open so that you are not disappointed upon arrival. We are going to wait until we absolutely must pick to close the range. With that said, the range will be closed on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4-5pm if we need to regain supply of balls. Our goal is to use Monday mornings to get the range clean picked for the week during the next couple of months.
Regarding the temperature, it is changing fast, and the early morning golfers can attest to it becoming a little chillier each day. You can check your weather apps as well as the news to find out in advance what the morning temps will be like. A reminder, If we get down to the 30’s, you can count on some type of frost delay. We will do our best to send out the message regarding any time delays and you can also call the golf shop directly before coming to the golf course. For those diehards, we have a supply of thermo/winter rain gloves that will help keep you warm during your round of golf.
We lost our daylight on Sunday as we turned back our clocks an hour. The sun is now setting around 4:40 and dark by 5:30. Please note that the pro shop will start closing around 5:00pm so if you plan on leaving town for golf and need your clubs from storage please plan appropriately.
Reminder to mark your calendar for the Winter Tour Series events. As in the past, we will have four Winter Tour events during the months of November-February. One event is planned each month on the second Saturday of the month with the first one on November 9th. Along with the team event, we will also have an individual game with a Canadian Skins game. The cost for members is $35 and guests pay $60 which includes breakfast, golf, and competition. We have a sign-up sheet in the golf shop, as well as a golf genius notification that went out last month. For those of you that want to wait until you get up that morning, make sure to get here in time for breakfast (7:30am) and ready to tee off (9am). We encourage all members to participate and bring out their friends/guests. This month’s team format is a Shamble. The golf genius GGID for sign ups is tlwinter124.
Inactive Score Posting Season begins in Washington Golf territory on November 15th. As we approach our Inactive Score Posting Season, we would like to pass along important information regarding the posting of scores: If you play golf during our Inactive Score Posting Season in an area where scores are still being accepted for handicap purposes, you must post those scores as soon as practicable. Your handicap will continue to be revised daily when you post an eligible score, even during the off-season.
WA Golf membership runs through a calendar year, from January 1st through December 31st. For those members that host their GHIN Membership with us, you will see your 2025 fee on the Dec 1 statement. For those of you that want to add/transfer your GHIN number to Twin Lakes, please contact me at kwake@twinlakesgolf.net and your information will be added into the system in January.
We are going to continue our Shoe Sale into November. All shoes in stock are 30% off. We have also put a few more items into our 50% off clothing racks. Stop by the golf shop and put your credit book money to use.
As we get into the season of thankfulness, the Greens Committee has a lot to be thankful for this year.
Thank you to everyone that does their part to assist keeping our golf course in the best shape possible.
We as a committee remain busy working on various items such as:
-Maintenance equipment replacement plan
-Sand bunker rehabs
-Rotted railroad ties removal/replacement plan throughout the course
-Cart path repair/replacement plan
-Cart path between 320th and Hole 10 tee boxes
-Hole 7 Poplar removal and replacement plan
If you have other ideas you would like the Greens Committee to address, you are always welcome to reach out to us.
As we have recently experienced consistent rainfall, you may have noticed an email sent out announcing cart path only for the time being. Always remember to check with the pro shop and obey cart path rules when riding carts. These rules are put in place to help avoid damage to the course.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please email me at tpac14@gmail.com and I will review with the committee.
Thank you,
Tyler Pac
Committee Chair
