From our Club President

Russ Meyers

President, Twin Lakes Board of Trustees

Greetings,

With summer fast approaching an end we really did have a good August and had some really great events at the Club. The Summer Bash went really well this year. Not every club provides a hot air ballon on the course as a beautiful backdrop and a band. Speaking of band, the Live Music on the Deck Night was packed also. We will continue to have live music events through the end of the year.  They really seem to be enjoyed by all.

There’s not much news to report this month other than everything seems to be going well.  The course is looking good. We will be doing some aeration on the fairways, tee boxes and greens soon. The pool has been operating as it should and the work to repair the tiles has been scheduled.

The Clubs annual general meeting will be held on Thursday November 5th at 6:30 with light apps, wine and beer. Elections for Board Members is also coming up and the lucky new members of the Board will be announced at the meeting. Information on how to run for the Board will be coming out soon.  If you have an interest, please don’t be shy and get your name in.   Please make plans to attend the meeting.

Good news on the accounting front, we think we will have that position filled very shortly.

From our General Manager

TOM COBURN

GENERAL MANAGER

Happy September, everyone! It is hard to believe how quickly summer has gone by.

As we say goodbye to the summer months, I hope everyone has had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the pool. I want to extend a sincere thank you to Lillian Tucker, our pool manager, and to her lifeguard staff for their hard work and dedication throughout the summer. With favorable weather still in the forecast, we plan to keep the pool open for the next two weekends and will continue to evaluate conditions beyond that. If the weather cooperates and lifeguards remain available, we will do our best to keep the pool open on weekends.

The Summer Bash was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the summer golf season. We had a terrific turnout, and members enjoyed an evening filled with music from Soul Funktion, great company, and the special addition of the hot air balloon.

If you enjoyed that event, you will want to make plans for New Year’s Eve. We are preparing a unique and exciting celebration to close out the year, and more details will be shared in the coming months. It promises to be a memorable evening and a wonderful way to ring in the new year with friends at the club.

As we approach the end of the season and prepare for fall aerification, I also want to congratulate John Leslie and his staff on the outstanding course conditions this year. Their work on the bunkers, along with the fertilization and sanding programs, has been executed extremely well, and the results are easy to see throughout the course.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday nights for the member drawing. It is a great opportunity to gather with friends, unwind after a long week, and enjoy time together at the club. See you soon!

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Boy has our summer flown by.  It seems like we just got started.  But now that September is here, it means the last few scheduled outside tournaments and aerification is upon us.  John Leslie and his crew will be working on the green aerification beginning the week of the 13th.  We will be starting on Sunday afternoon and working our way through Monday.  The course will be closed all day on Monday the 14th.  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday the golf course will be closed till 12pm.  The tee sheet is open after that time.  9-Hole Women’s Division will still have their play day.  The Men’s League will still have their Horse Race that is scheduled.  As of now, we have 20 players signed up for the 2man Fall event for that Saturday.  There is still room for sign-ups for this 2-day event.

I mentioned that we have one outstanding outside event left- Friday, Sept 11 is the Washington Glass Tournament.  The golf course will be closed on this day.  The driving range will be open after 2pm for our usual clean pick.

It’s back to school time and that means back to high school golf as well.  Both Decatur and Todd Beamer High Schools have started their practices with matches to follow shortly.  They have practice Monday thru Thursday after school starting around 2:30, as well as matches set on Mondays and Thursday’s so, please plan accordingly when coming out to use the driving range, putting/chipping greens.    If you come out to practice between 3-4:30pm, we will make room for you on the range, but it will be more comfortable for you to work your schedules around these times.  Please note that part of their arrangement is for them to pick balls up after they hit them.  This will be hard to accomplish if we have members hitting at the same time as they are finishing range practice around 4:30pm.

Congratulations go out to Sharon Lorenzo and Ian Clark for winning this year’s Ladies Club Championship and Men’s Club Championship.  Our Senior Club Championship is Rick Schlehofer (Mr. Repeat).  Our Men’s President’s Cup Match Play Championship is still in process.  All the first matches are being completed this weekend with the second set to be completed by Sept 14th.

We will be holding The Fall 2 Man event on the 19th & 20th.  Saturday’s format is Better Ball points and Sunday’s format is a scramble in the morning with a 9-hole chapman in the afternoon.  $75 Entry per person includes lunch in between Sunday’s rounds.  For those new to this event, it is a blast.  My hope is to see some of the new members and those members that haven’t played in the past give it a try as this is a fun Stableford event.  If you need help finding a partner, stop by the pro shop and let us know how we can help.

The Winward Cup is Sunday, Sept 27th for the men’s league final event.  We will be sending out email notifications for golf and dinner sign-ups shortly but get those calendars marked so you don’t miss out!.  All Men’s League participants are welcome for golf and dinner as it is included in your league entry at the beginning of the year.

Mark your Calendars

Sunday, October 4th as we will be having our Annual Couples Championship.

Sat October 10 we will be playing host to the Twin Lakes Amateur.  The event will be 12:30 Shotgun start on Saturday.  Please note:  The tee sheet will have limited play in the morning on Saturday (7:30 – 9am) to accommodate the field of players for the Twin Lakes Amateur.

Twin Lakes Ryder Cup is the weekend of Oct 17 & 18.  More information about this event is to come as we will have three captains this year, Myself, Ben Bergner, and Tom Coburn.  Clear your calendars so that you can participate in this event.  Only 36 players in the field will be divided among the 3 teams.  Team Wake are the defending champions.

Lastly, on October 24 we will be hosting WaGolf in the morning with their Representative Meeting.  After their lunch, around 50 participants will be playing golf at 12pm.  The tee sheet will have limited play in the morning (7:30 – 9am) to accommodate this afternoon shotgun.  We will have play available from 12:30 – 1:30 before they make the turn from hole 18.

It’s been a great golf season this year with pro ams, golf activities, and league events.   Going into the winter, we will still have our winter series events where you are able to invite guests to join us for breakfast and golf.

Enjoy the last bit of Summer!

Kathy and Staff

Please respect private property when looking for your golf ball, and use the restrooms provided on the course at holes #6 and #15. Thank you.

Greens Committee

As the days get shorter and the weather cools, we still have plenty of good golf weather ahead. We hope you are able to get out and enjoy the course!

John Leslie and his crew have been busy maintaining and improving the golf course. They have focused on watering the course aggressively to limit dried out parts of the course. There have been some muddy spots as a result but John plans to do some targeted aerification on those areas if they continue to be an issue. They have continued hand watering areas that the sprinklers are not addressing adequately.

In case you missed it, John Leslie also included some good information in his latest Superintendent Update on the Course. He noted the progress that has been made on the grass nursery on hole 14. Since his writing the update, the nursery looks even better! The latest rain will certainly help. This will allow him to use the sod on needed areas into next spring to keep improving the course.

John also noted in his update that he would like us to put bunker rakes in the bunkers with the handle sticking out of the bunker. This has the least impact on the crew doing their work and golfers during play. Thank you for being mindful to put your bunker rakes back in this manner.

Aerification is also coming up, an unfortunate but much needed part of maintaining our golf course. We know this is a vital part of how John is maintaining and improving Twin Lakes. He hopes to aerate and top dress all greens, approaches, and fairways.

We also invite you to visit this maintenance link to view photos of recent completed work! Maintenance 2026. Thank you to John and his team and the MMC for their hard work and contributions to the beautification and maintenance of the golf course and property.

For other questions, comments, or concerns please email tpac14@gmail.com and/or ssealey16@gmail.com and we will review with the committee.

Thank you,

SOCIAL COMMITTEE

August was another great month of friends, food and fun!  Welcome to our new members who have joined in the social events here at the Club.

Members enjoyed the variety of Happy Hour offerings throughout the summer along with Bunco and Rock N Roll Bingo events.  Our first Tropical Pool Deck party brought members and their guests out for a Saturday night of fun.

The following week we had a fantastic turnout for our Annual Summer Bash featuring a Putting Contest that came down to the wire, our  first Hot Air Balloon Glow on the 9th fairway, and members dancing the night away to Soul Funktion!  Thanks to all that stayed late into the night and made this a memorable event.

We hope you’ve also enjoyed the live music on the patio from local musician, Sam Parker.  He’s back again in the Lounge Friday, September 25th 6pm – 8pm!

We’re getting ready for all the Fall and Holiday fun that Twin Lakes is known for… so watch for upcoming details and plan to be here!

Women’s Division

Another very busy month.  We were blessed with good weather and lots of healthy competition.

Congrats to Tami Greene on an amazing net 63 on Ace Day!

Starting out with the Women’s Division Club Championship, congrats to Sharon Lorenzo on her 9th consecutive win, that’s amazing.  Club Champs is a really fun event in large part because just about everyone wins.  Good job to all who made it into the winner’s circle.

Captain’s Cup wrapped up with 2 playoff matches, first between Anna Lee and Minhee Chung, Minhee was victorious, finally a match between Minhee and Sally ended in another win for Minhee.  Contrats to Minhee and all the flight winners.

Just this past Tuesday we finished the Partners Tournament, team Step Sisters 2.0, Tami Green and In Sook Woo are the winners by an impressive 12 point lead over the 2nd and 3rd place teams of Frankie and Jen, Neighborhood Cheetahs and Anna Lee and Angela Lee, Nice Combi.  Always a fun day, thanks to Kim Crahan and Ben Bergner.

All prize money for the tournaments will be paid out at the Awards Banquet in December.

The remainder of September looks pretty calm, only one major tournament, WSWGA Seniors Championship at Olympia on the 15th & 16th.  Olympia is using Live Tourney so you can follow the action through that ap.  Sally will send out the code once it is available.

Coming up on October 3rd is the Women’s Division End of Year Horserace.  Let’s cross our fingers for some good weather.

***Correction*** Last month I reported on Sweeps at Bear Creek and incorrectly stated that Frankie and Suzy were winners when it was actually Frankie and Sue Sohn.  Sorry ladies, got my Sue’s mixed up!

Hope you all had fun and continue to enjoy the game and the camaraderie going into the fall.  Happy golfing!

Women's 9 Hole Division

Wow,

We it’s September and where has our season gone?  It’s been a quick 6 months but we’ve seen so much improvement in our league…It’s just Awesome!!  We have 8 Ladies that have improved their handicap by 5 or more strokes and we have 3 Ladies that have improved by 10 or better.  That is so great to see!!

We only have 4 more weeks until our 9 Hole season is over. One of those weeks, (9/22) will be spent playing all sorts of fun games and weird swings while participating in our Field Day event. Our Field Day Committee members will be coming up with some really twisted events, so hopefully most of our division members will be able to get out and enjoy that event.

August found us playing a Low Net, Mystery 4 and a Team competition of Best Ball/Best Putt. We also shared a day with the 18 Hole ladies and men’s group to have a cross-horse race.  The men always invite us out for their horse race, so the Women’s Division thought we would reciprocate this year and it was a lot of fun!

We will have our awards ceremony and dinner the first Tuesday of December, (12-1) and then look forward to next years season.  Any Women that are interested in joining the 9 or 18 Hole Division please reach out to the pro shop and they will direct you to the correct contact people.  We would love to have you join the fun.
